Darlington shopkeeper avoids jail after more than 35,000 illegal cigarettes found

A SHOPKEEPER has avoided prison after hundreds of packets of illegal cigarettes were found on his premises.
Darlington Borough Council says more than 35,000 cigarettes and 5kg of rolling tobacco was seized during several raids at the Mini Market, in Gladstone Street, Darlington, in September 2019.
Etris Hassan Moulod, 36, of Trinity Mews, Thornaby, was found guilty of four offences of possessing to supply counterfeit goods under the Trade Marks Act 1994 and four offences relating to the regulation of tobacco products packaging at Peterlee Magistrates' Court.
On December 22, Teesside magistrates gave him a 20 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge, totalling £1,371, and the products seized were forfeited.
