By WMAY Newsroom Photo Credit: Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology / Official Website A data snafu has resulted in personal information about state benefit recipients being sent to thousands of households around the state. State officials say data from the National Change of Address Registry was matched up with an out-of-date state records file, resulting in more than 8,000 addresses being improperly changed. Then letters containing sensitive data were sent to recipients at those incorrect addresses. The data included state benefits information, names of dependents, and in at least one case a complete Social Security number. Officials say they’re not aware of any of that information being misused.
