The burn was set to start at 11 a.m. if weather conditions permit it, officials said. The primary objective of the controlled burn is to restore an oak savanna. DEEP forestry personnel will employ a detailed operation and safety plan to conduct the burn to ensure its effectiveness and safety, officials said. Notifications have been made to the local first selectman’s office, fire department and fire dispatch before the burn. A sign on Keeny Road from previous burns has been informing the public of the burn’s intent.
