three-year spending freeze on a range of domestic programs other than national security and entitlements like social security and medicare. our senior congressional correspondent dana bash has been talk to go lawmakers of the budget. she's standing by, but let's go to our white house correspondent dan lothian first. the president is proposing some cuts, but certainly not enough by far to bring down the deficit in the short term. >> reporter: that's right, it really isn't, wolf. you heard from the president today acknowledging much more needs to be done in order to impact the deficit. that's why he's pushing this bipartisan fiscal commission, a panel made up of republicans and democrats to sit down and find over the midterm and long range ways to further reduce the deficit. one question that came up is why is this even necessary? shouldn't the president and democrats who are in the majority be able to make thinks tough choices, but robert gibbs saying today, wolf, it takes more than just one party to fix this problem. >> dan, the freeze he's
