male-dominated industry. why did you feel like it was important to have this kind of guidepost? >> well, i feel like, one as an african-american woman having worked in entertainment for almost 20 years, i didn't feel like there was a book out there like this, and i think that as a woman in any business, it is important to go in and demand your respect. there are certain ways to carry yourself, and you have to be on your toes. >> reporter: it can be intimidating and you are a young person and college student-age and i'm afraid to raise my hand or be assertive, because i am trying to figure tout jout the and how did you do that successfully? >> well, i am not shy. i went to lot of of conventions, and i walked up to russell simmons at the jack the ripper convention, and i said, hey, you don't know me now, but by the end of the convention, you will. he thought, who is this little girl standing in front of me. i was aggressive and assertive and not afraid. >> reporter: from capitol
