here's the setup. joe manchin, the democrat, republicans in a state like this think that's a very ripe democrat. this is the most recent public poll we have. public meaning media organization sponsored it. we can review it. we know the numbers. it's a week old. look, a week ago this was the story. blankenship was running in third. republicans nationally for pouring money in trying to kill him politically. seemed to be working. in the last week, however, blankingship dominated coverage in the race. he got a stylistically well reviewed debate performance. there's been lots of controversy. this is what we have to go on right now. what this is, the headlines add up to panic from the republican establishment because they're internal polls. we can't see them. they're telling folks that their internal polls in west virginia have blankenship surging and taking the lead. and maybe have blankenship winning. it's a bit of an unusual situation here.
