Dist. 229 schools double summer session size Star Courier Kewanee Dist. 229 schools will be doubling their summer school offerings and some attendance centers are recommending that each and every student attend the special session in an effort to reconcile the last year's scattershot academic efforts. Schools leaders admit that the last year has been exhausting for them, students and parents, with every group shifting almost daily to the ever-changing demands of a pandemic. But they say the extra teaching time -- 22 days of it over the summer months -- is a necessity for some students and a bridge to the 2021-22 academic year for others.
