By Jim Leach Central Illinois’s newest lawmaker didn’t waste any time making headlines. State Senator Sally Turner was sworn in this past weekend, taking over the seat that had been held by her fellow Republican, Bill Brady. In the interest of disclosure, I should note that Sen. Turner is now my state senator, but I didn’t vote for her. Neither did anyone else – the hot new trend in the General Assembly is for lawmakers to resign days or weeks after the last election, allowing an appointed successor to get his or her feet wet and build up some incumbency without that pesky business of election.
