Millions of dollars have been invested in research to study a serious brain disorder called CTE and in technology to prevent concussions.
Studies have found that high rates of concussions, traumatic brain injuries, and CTE in former players could seriously debilitating.
Doctors and researchers said there is still a lot they know and understand.
“I’ve seen brains that have this injury in them," said Dr. C. Dirk Keene is Chief of Neuropathology at UW Medicine. He researches brain disorders including CTE. "It’s real. Chronic injury to the brain, associated with chronic repetitive neuro trauma-- the kind of chronic injury you may receive as a football player."
