Dorset Council and Dorset Police prepare for weekend heatwave

WITH temperatures set to soar, Dorset Council and Dorset Police have outlined precautionary measures to combat the huge footfall expected in Dorset this weekend.
Areas of Dorset are forecast for highs of up to 27 degrees across Saturday and Sunday as a July heatwave looks set to start. It is scheduled to be the last weekend before the so-called Freedom Day on July 19, where all legal social distancing-based requirements will end.
Earlier this year, the council put together a multi-million-pound summer readiness plan in response to the high levels of disorder and parking chaos experienced in 2020.
A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: “The council has been working for many months with partners to prepare for warm summer days and we have plans in place to help keep Dorset moving this weekend. We’ll be working closely with the Multi-Agency Command Centre to monitor traffic volumes and parking capacity, as well as keeping an eye on any littering and waste issues at key visitor locations.
