DOT Seeks Public Input on Highway 8 Project Near Rhinelander By Liz Holbrook Jul 6, 2021 | 7:56 PM RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is looking ahead to a major construction project on Highway 8 near Rhinelander. It’s asking for people’s input on the project. Highway 8 west of Rhinelander is in need of repairs. “The existing asphalt pavement out there is definitely deteriorating. It’s reached the end of its life and it’s time to replace it,” said DOT Project Manager Kai Kilen. This construction project will focus on Highway 8 between the roundabout at Highway 47 and North Rifle Road. It’s roughly a three-mile stretch. In addition, to replace the asphalt pavement, there are plans to improve drainage and repair curbs and gutters. Kilen said the DOT is also working with the City of Rhinelander to replace the railroad crossing.
