Dover Letters to the Editor: Schools fall short on equity education Alison Galley, Dover As a parent of Dover-Sherborn students, I encourage others to watch the most recent Dover-Sherborn Joint School Committee Meeting (http://tv.dsctv.com/CablecastPublicSite/show/3594?channel=3). During this meeting, many Dover-Sherborn alumni called upon our community to evaluate and meaningfully reflect upon the experiences our children have throughout their years in the D-S school system. Former students opened community members' eyes to incidents that unfortunately transpire within the walls of our schools. The district has formed a diversity, equity and inclusion Task Force (DS AIDE) to address and combat the ignorance that results in the exclusion and othering of some of the students in our community, in hopes of developing our children's sense of how they contribute to the surrounding world while still inside the D-S bubble. As you might be aware, the district is conducting an equity audit in order to "ensure a standard of excellence for ALL students." The audit, performed by experts from New York University, will include the collection of "quantitative and qualitative data" from all shareholders; further analysis will result in "recommendations that may be incorporated into the district's next strategic plan."
