Dover Library to host Civil War program COURTESY OF THE DOVER PUBLIC LIBRARY The Dover Public Library will host a Civil War program featuring historian Chris Hart at 6:30 p.m. May 25 via Facebook Live. Hart will portray New York City policeman Peter Hart, who has been invited to give the eulogy of his friend Robert Anderson with whom he served at Fort Sumter. Hart will share events leading up to and conditions during the first battle of the Civil War, including the lowering of the flag when the fort is surrendered. The first shots of the American Civil War were fired on Fort Sumter, an island fortress in Charleston, South Carolina, held by federal troops. Confederate soldiers aimed their heavy artillery at the small garrison and fired April 12, 1861.
