A HISTORIC and solemn day took place on Saturday as the longest serving consort to the monarch was laid to rest. His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen’s husband, died on April 9 and was buried in the Royal Vault after a funeral on Saturday. Cumbrians and the nation as a whole paid their respects to the man in their own unique ways as the Royal Family took part in a private ceremony at St George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Anne Pirnie said: “A fitting tribute to Prince Philip. Beautiful service. Well performed by all concerned.”
