4 A team of Ear, Nose and Throat physicians at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center performed a first-of-its-kind intranasal cryotherapy procedure at LRMC, April 1. The procedure, which also marks the first time it’s been performed anywhere in Germany, uses cryoablation to freeze nerves in the back of the nose to treat chronic rhinitis, or allergy-like symptoms which last more than a month. “We are really excited to be able to bring this service to (LRMC) because it allows us to treat patients with non-allergic and allergic rhinitis,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jessica Peck, chief, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, LRMC. “It is a procedure that's been performed in the United States now for about two years but was not approved by our host nation until late last year.”
