1000000 books welcome to the program there is still no winner in the u. S. Election but there are some encouraging signs for democratic challenger joe biden the former Vice President has picked up wins in some closely fought states President Trump meanwhile is facing an increasingly difficult path to re election hes launched legal challenges aimed to stop the vote counting in several tight races a call echoed by his supporters. In arizona a crowd of trump fans gathered to protest the ongoing vote count there that race is neck and neck though several news outlets have reported joe biden has flipped this battleground state trump has made unfounded allegations of voter fraud and on wednesday accused democrats of trying to steal the election. So lets have a look now at where we are in this election our figures are showing that biden currently has an edge 264. 00 electoral votes to president Donald Trumps 214. 00 which puts joe biden just 6 f electoral votes shy of the magic 270 he would need to win the presidency now how did he get there all partly its michigan accounting is done in that state and by that has won it with its 16 electoral votes it was a very close margin but it does put joe biden on top with the help of neighboring state wisconsin our figures there indicate joe biden won that state and its 10 electoral votes now its a little less certain out west in nevada that brings us over there to where exactly 6 electoral votes could be waiting for joe biden to put him over the edge if he holds onto his lead a very narrow one in the counting is still going on but if nevada can go to biden he will become the next president of the United States georgia 16 electoral votes on the table big state an important one for donald trump whos leading the way there but that margin is narrowing as more votes are coming in from democratic areas the Trump Campaign is even filed a lawsuit alleging that ineligible late absentee ballots may have been added to the count but we are waiting to see the evidence for that and out in arizona again data shows that biden has taken it but it is a very tight race counting is still ongoing it could change at any time and that goes for the entire country a lot of counting still going on the path to victory for donald trump has narrowed significantly but it is still either mans election to win. And we have Team Coverage on this story our reporter stacy bevans is here in the studio in our chief Political Editor michelle a crucial here is joining us from washington michelle i want to start with you what will signal that this election is over that someones won how will we know. You know when they. When that trend that weve been through also today we do see you now with the balls in the stage of sylvania which is how to pay you need you already for hopefuls about 4. 00 to 5. 00 big difference in the still remaining there. That says it is destruction of the faces that suggest that divide is already getting closer and closer to the decisive thing being told to getting this 270. 00 votes that he will lead in the eventual all this and then the marriage thing it would be game over for i think woods because as you were he mentioned double trouble was go into the years questioning the very process and his vow not to fight this in the 4th probably did foul play they were before there was any kind of hint that much in the kind of that. Station lets talk about that evidence the United States has very little history of voter fraud but theres a long history of voting problems of other kinds and why cant the United States just have a reliable vote count and across the 50 states get that count in consistently across the board so we can just get a result get on with things one of the problem is there is no national nonpartizan organization that oversees the count every county is run by elected legislators whether democrat or republican and some counties are very well i said my phone by mail and everything went smoothly and when i vote in person its smooth but its a smaller county and its republican and larger areas where its predominately democrat there bit they have been issues with. The. Ox is being taken away or polling places being consolidated are shut down and this is a form of Voter Suppression the United States definitely has the infrastructure to have a more streamlined process but not everybody has the will to do that all right lets go to hold it there for a 2nd because joe biden did speak earlier this evening that he wouldnt of course declare victory but he kind of came close to it lets have a quick listen to what he said about the race as it currently stands and now after a long night of county its clear that were when you know states to reach 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency im not here declare that weve won but i am here to report the count is finished we believe we will be the winners of all the votes counted we have won wisconsin by 20000 virt votes virtually the same margin of President Trump won that state 4 years ago in michigan we lead by over 35000 votes and its growing a substantially bigger margin and President Trump won michigan in 2016 michigan will complete his votes maybe as early as the day and i feel very good about pennsylvania virtually all the remaining ballots to be counted were cast by mail and weve been winning 78 percent of the vote by mail in pennsylvania we flipped arizona and the 2nd district of nebraska of special significance to me is that weve won with the majority of the American People and every indication is that that majority will grow of the popular vote lead of nearly 3000000 votes. And every indication is that will grow as well oh indeed senator harris and i are on track to win more votes than any ticket in the history of this country ever won the presidency and vice presidency over 70000000 votes joe biden theyre feeling cautiously optimistic me shallow we hear joe biden you know going through all the numbers he might have a technical win and its a winner take all system of course but i think democrats were hoping for more especially what the polls were showing thats not what happened so what did. Yes well the polls were wrong again as they were in 2016 and the pollsters this year says they fixed a lot of those issues one of them was not really discriminating enough between voters with higher levels of education and with that with and without call disagrees now that doesnt seem to have been enough does it and clearly when it when we look at florida just one example there was a lot of talk about the let tino vote donald trump clearly over the years put in the work and convinced many that demo being democrat means being a socialist and that something they didnt want and thats how he managed to secure a very important power base that kept florida safety for him so yes the pollsters got it wrong and it shows that maybe polling is clearly in a deep crisis here in the United States which yes of becoming more and more divided but not just binary but also within individual communities thats such a good point lectures are so much more than just numbers and data but there are humans behind those votes and those numbers and weve been talking to some of them in joe bidens home state of delaware so lets have a quick listen what they had to say just flew anxious to find out who won i would say as nervous as a lot of people. President s really. Really affect my life that much and ever said about it just because the place right now but im feeling good about it because i didnt it just when i started in michigan and i know right now were waiting to hear about nevada and its looking with pennsylvania so im really hoping that its going to be a success right in the president ial election is not going to determine a change to change the term in amongst us as the people most it is tell us. The standard process. The process. Its a little disappointing how many spaces and counties went red at or near me but overall it is what it is not necessarily. We dont know the results just so there is no absolute answer just a few voices there Stacey Donald trump very divisive figure yes people have very strong feelings about him hes never had very high Approval Ratings not given great credit for their handling of the current virus pandemic and yet very it pretty well in this election what explains for well i mean this is a reflection of where we are as the country and this United States is very divided and as there is at least 50 percent of the people who agree with his sentiments whether we find them races or massaging the stick. They like him because he reflects their world view and i know that democrats really were expecting this to be a landslide where this was a be a repudiation of trump and trump is and that it would go away but even if joe biden remains is here to stay the Democratic Party has a lot of work to do if they went from very much a symptom not a cause of some much deeper structural issues going on there michel is it too soon to start drawing any lessons from this election what can democrats and republicans already star start learning. Well once again we see 2 clearly is more than 3000000 votes in the lead not being handed a victory so i think that raises a lot of structural issues both have resisted actual election reform in the United States this doesnt necessarily mean streamlining being very regional can also be an advantage but clearly the. Big issue is when we talk about these divisions were not just talking about different perspectives on an actual subject were talking about very different realities that both sides are continuing to live in and more and more so now we can all blame social media but it does kind of propel this impression that everybody can stay in their own bubble and can just regard the other side. As the political enemy and donald trump has made those divisions even deeper and now i guess the republicans will have to ask themselves at least as much as the democrats why they let this happen and how they can take it from there but looking. For you seeing in terms of debating those results right now im not terribly hopeful at this very moment in time its very much a tribal atmosphere but at least over here i like to try that i got with me Stacey Bevans here in the studio michel appears in washington thank you very much for following the story for us. This is t w news live from berlin and heres a reminder of that top story in the u. S. Election democratic president ial candidate joe biden has added the swing state of michigan to his column putting in just 6 Electoral College votes short of victory speaking in delaware biden said he was confident of winning trump is planning legal challenges for the future. Of a 19 broke out at a wild animal market in china there were International Calls for the closure of such markets but experts warn a bad could drive the trade underground on its changing its hygiene ill talk to an expert about that in a moment 1st some more background. What ours diseases their diseases caused by pathogens carried by nonhuman animals that spread to people 6 out of every 10 Infectious Diseases are believed to be zoo are not. The pathogens can be iriss bacteria parasites or funky. Many of the diseases they cause in people are mild but some are serious and even deadly. The bubonic plague tuberculosis malaria and ebola are zoonotic diseases that have killed countless millions of people. Mosquitoes and bats but also cats and dogs and many other species carry pathogens that can make people sick but often they dont make the animals that host them sick. Transmission can occur via a bite or through eating the flesh of a carrier or contact with its blood or feces. Zoonotic diseases can spread fast and far if the pathogens adapt to be transmitted from person to person thats the case with the Novel Coronavirus. One hypothesis is that penguins were the intermediaries that transported the Novel Coronavirus from its natural host bats to humans which markets where live wild animals are sold are considered a potential site of transmission of zoonotic disease pathogens some have been closed for that reason. Infectious diseases from animals are a growing problem that probably has to do with humans encroaching on animal habitats forests are cleared for timber or to make space for farms or towns humans and animal species are no longer far apart this offers opportunities for pathogens to make the leap. There are more than 200. 00 known zoonotic diseases but there are countless germs out there to which humans have no immunity are new devastating diseases lurking to prevent them making the jump to humans we need to protect wild animals and their habitats. Colas how to louis is deputy head of the institute of epidemiology at germanys place enough the institute also a veterinary epidemiologist just how dangerous odd zoonotic diseases. Well soon adjective these are sort of in you know in our human nature already for many many years of many centuries because you know to diseases as i. Have or to the church and humans anything animals and interesting part is that about 60 percent of all human Infectious Diseases they originate from animals they come from animals and over the last few years with newly emerging diseases actually 75 at the same sorrow when you look at an incentive thats quite a lot of cannot sell another has a chance to challenge the at champ between animals and humans and that is not surprising because the early humans get out of the end hoping that so therefore all the has a chance to challenge the virus theyre tearing out and so on they dont distinguish between animals and humans and theres no question barriers between animals and humans so soon noses are really never actually to most of the diseases speech and hair and a lot of this will noses like be nothing corks our skulls go to the horn or their dad lot of other cases where there was a switch we have already complex and men have to take measures against like a great piece of chicken or was used to say there was this all i was telling a lie was is all those diseases were around there all this that was at the once which which we here in the last few years they teach us through to through was fine true. A. J. Would be evil and they all originated from animals so what do you say when will we now sharing a lot more of those diseases with the animal kingdom. Yes you all this she had a lot of inner office. And now out recently is that we have more to be believed all of. This is because 1st of all the other more you can take to the animals its much more that we also go into the penetrate to habitats over before they can detect the animals for a while and for whatever so our politic possibilities between animals and humans they have match has been there and he has carol in addition to the also have the trade and our travels through all of that of life became traveled like the south will now we dont like the other day that it was in one day and all different weaknesses so there had to kind of take possibilities much higher and it was ever before so what do we need to do what do we need to do to prevent zoonosis i think the you know there is even that its almost as if im going to have to and as you say we have to try to prevent them and i think one key measure its really cheating and i messed up so were the whole interval babies because. Biosecurity budgets and applies to you really have to. Be dont have such a right. I was going to take i specially is he said if there was had she missed definitely episode quite a lot its just making her problems chile theres a lot more we need to do to be proactive before these diseases jump from animal to human though i mean whats the solution on that front it does that mean less factory farming does it mean chopping down list jungles and forests. Well it could mean that all of this could mean. Less and less for us but it also could mean being woke more ive been able to see if you can bring it is the season. You know the best in europe. They need help from other ecosystems theyve been might bring in viruses. That might have or hasnt changed just the l. A. N. s and sort of like treating ourselves afterwards like being in pain just sort of like our candy you cant keep a t. V. Fresh stick in a farm town and you can try. If possible to be more sustainable want to go see areas. Where weights excel and so on but surely there are more proactive measures that we can take i mean what do you tell someone who who needs to venture out who needs to eat bush meat. Basically to survive someone in the democratic republic of congo say in a small village who doesnt see the danger in catching as there were no cities. Then i dont see the danger of that its still a matter of the band. That was a college debt you cant make that o. B. L. Is the one and if they are high achieving missions which they can take just to prevent those who knows is going on what fro
