The report released by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation on Wednesday attempts to put Canada’s debt levels into more digestible numbers for the average Canadian. Much of that debt owed is from the federal government, totalling $32,200 for every Canadian.

“It really is an eye-popping figure when you consider that each Manitoban is on the hook for more than $53,000 in government debt,” said Franco Terrazzano, federal director of the CTF. “That money is not going to fall from the sky, it can’t be plucked from the trees, it has to come from taxpayers’ pockets if politicians don’t actually reign in spending.”
