Edwards sentenced in connection with Pawling Avenue murder

TROY, N.Y. — Rensselaer County District Mary Pat Donnelly announced the sentencing of Rashad Edwards, 36, of Troy, in the 2019 stabbing death of Brianna Haughton of Schodack.
Rensselaer County Court Judge Jennifer Sober sentenced Edwards to 23 years to life for the charge of felony second-degree murder, and 3 1/2 to seven years for felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Since Edwards was a second time felony offender, Sober enforced the maximum sentences.
Edwards, who was released on parole in connection with a previous charge, was arrested following an investigation into the death of Haughton. Haughton’s body was found on Jan. 14, 2019, at 491 Pawling Ave., Troy, after a welfare check by Troy police. An extensive probe revealed that Edwards had repeatedly stabbed Haughton in the presence of their infant child.
