Ingram Farm Director Ross Wilson FARMERS MUST be fairly rewarded for looking after the land under the UK Government's new Environment Land Management Schemes (ELMS). Concerns have been raised that farmers in England aren't being recompensed highly enough for their produce in order to cover the costs of maintaining and improving their land. Farm Director of Ingram Valley Farm in Northumberland, Ross Wilson, shared some thoughts on ELMS and urged for farmers to be rewarded for their custodianship of the countryside: "For me the new ELMS scheme should be there to reward farmers for not just improving but also maintaining the farmed landscape and the public goods that are provided by it. In the uplands especially there are little or no other options for farmers to alter the use of their land or diversify. However these farmers are playing a vital role in maintaining and improving some of this country’s most important landscapes," he stressed.
