Erie County elections: Officials report errors at two Erie County polling sites

Staff report
Erie County elections officials reported errors Tuesday at two county polling places.
Doug Smith, the county's clerk of elections, reported problems that led voters at two polling places to take ballots with them rather than having their municipal primary ballots scanned.
Smith said the judge of elections at the voting precinct located at Jefferson Elementary School, 230 E. 38th St., reported a “procedural error” Tuesday that resulted in nine voters being given ballots to take home with them.
“That shouldn’t have happened,” Smith said. “The ballots weren’t scanned. It was a mix-up by the machine operator.”
Smith said the judge of elections was able to provide the names of seven of the nine voters, but officials could not identify the other two "with certainty," according to a news release.
