Escambia Children's Trust chooses three focus areas

The trust met for the second time as a full 10-member board Tuesday to discuss the next steps it needs to take to get its organization established. Below are three things residents can expect the children's trust to do next.
1. Determine tentative budget
The trust's first budget will focus on programming for "ready kids," "ready youth" and "ready families" but exactly how much funding will be in each of those buckets and overhead costs will be determined by a budget planning committee later this month.
That tentative budget will be the first priority because it is needed before the Children's Trust can move forward with determining the millage rate, or amount of tax it will charge this year, to carry out that budget. The trust formed the budget planning committee Tuesday, which will meet at 10:30 a.m. May 24 at the school district's Hall Center at 30 E. Texar Drive.
