The trust met for the second time as a full 10-member board Tuesday to discuss the next steps it needs to take to get its organization established. Below are three things residents can expect the children s trust to do next. 1. Determine tentative budget The trust s first budget will focus on programming for ready kids, ready youth and ready families but exactly how much funding will be in each of those buckets and overhead costs will be determined by a budget planning committee later this month. That tentative budget will be the first priority because it is needed before the Children s Trust can move forward with determining the millage rate, or amount of tax it will charge this year, to carry out that budget. The trust formed the budget planning committee Tuesday, which will meet at 10:30 a.m. May 24 at the school district s Hall Center at 30 E. Texar Drive. ....

The trust s needs assessment subcommittee narrowed down the needs to those three buckets before recommending that the full trust publish them for community feedback. The subcommittee chose those needs during its first meeting Monday after gathering data from various service providers. It seems like we have a pretty consistent message of three big areas, said Escambia County School District Superintendent Tim Smith, who is also a member of the trust.
