Escambia Children's Trust could focus on 3 areas of need in first year

The Escambia Children's Trust could focus on three umbrella areas of need in its first year of collecting taxes — what it calls "ready families," "ready youth" and "ready babies."
The trust's needs assessment subcommittee narrowed down the needs to those three "buckets" before recommending that the full trust publish them for community feedback. The subcommittee chose those needs during its first meeting Monday after gathering data from various service providers.
"It seems like we have a pretty consistent message of three big areas," said Escambia County School District Superintendent Tim Smith, who is also a member of the trust. "It seems also there have been a lot of needs assessments that they've conducted and that we have the information, I would say, at least for the time being. Would it be an idea worth pursuing to have something go out on a public forum ... where we seek affirmation of these three buckets from the public?"
