Eskom now has to pay employees to compensate for travelling costs to schools as well as to access medical care, as they live and work in remote areas. The commission found that Eskom unilaterally changed conditions of service for these employees back in 2017. Eskom has lost a dispute with trade union Solidarity, and it will have to pay employees working in remote or isolated areas certain benefits, the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has ruled.
