The Falkland Islands government has taken delivery of a new Britten-Norman BN2B-26 Islander, supplementing a fleet of decades-old BN2Bs. Britten-Norman recently delivered the new Textron Lycoming O-540-powered aircraft to the Falkland Islands Government Aviation Service (FIGAS).
The new aircraft has Garmin avionics, including G600TXi primary displays, and terrain-alert systems. FIGAS uses Islanders to operate passenger flights to remote communities. The types also carry cargo and mail, and to perform air-ambulance and environmental monitoring flights.
