Conspicuous safety measures that already have been undertaken by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation include a larger, more visible speed limit sign near the entrance to the ramp leading to southbound Routes 79 and 138 and eastbound Route 6. Unlike the old, yellow sign with only the word “ramp” above the 30 mph posted limit, the new version is roughly twice the size and includes a black, curling arrow meant to alert drivers they are about to enter a curved ramp that veers sharply to the right. Two other identical signs have also been installed, one at the entrance to the bridge in Somerset heading east and the other halfway across the sp.
