A farmer died after being buried alive in a tunnel collapse as he tried to rescue his sheep dog from a hole in a field. Father-of-three Gary Davies, 36, was caught in the tunnel collapse while trying to find his dog, called Llecau, who had run 'loose' at Gorse Farm in St Harmon, Rhayader, Mid Wales. After discovering his dog trapped in a hole, Mr Davies started to dig away, before loose earth fell on top of him. Emergency services rescued him from the hole but he died in hospital five days later on January 16. The victim's family declined to comment on the incident and the fate of Mr Davies' dog is unknown.
