Fashion's greenwashing could 'hamper the progress of change'

Mihila carbon-neutral factory
Corporate carbon emissions specialist Carbon Responsible has undertaken an assessment of 48 major high street and online fashion brands to “try and understand the level of disclosure that supports the carbon aspect of sustainability claims”.
The assessment, taken out between June and July 2021, and seen exclusively by Drapers, used publicly available data from company websites, including sustainability and financial reports. Carbon Responsible said that it decided to focus on carbon emissions, as, although these are only “one part of the wider sustainability matrix”, they have good accounting methodology and clear standards that enable a clear like-for-like comparison of company or product performance.
