FBC The Intelligence Report With Trish Regan October 17, 2017

Have support of all the republicans because well have no support from the democrats or almost no support, because they have really become just obstructionists. They have no food good policies, panned theyre not very good politicians. What they do well is obstruct. The nominees i have approved by the democrats half what president obama had. If you look at that, look at judicial appointments, how slow that is going. I will have 145 ultimately, which is tremendous number, 17 court of appeals appointments. Theyre not getting approved. Theyre slowwalked by schumer and group of democrats that really, it is really disgraceful. People they know they are going to approve, they take it right out to the end, they use every single minute. I think its a very disgraceful situation. But obamacare is everything but dead. The people are not going to take it. Theyre not going to take it. Alaska, they had over 200 increase. In arizona, they were 116 i hear going up even higher. The people are not taking that any longer. I think were in great shape. I think we have the votes. Well do that after the largest tax cuts in the history of our country are approved. Hopefully sometime in very near future. Reporter is grahamcassidy still the plan . , sir. Yes, sir. Block grants. Reporter mr. Prime minister, in march of 2016 you said potential for donald trump presidency, i hope we will not face this evil. I am wondering if after spending time with the president you have changed your mind or of the same mind. I wish i knew that before my speech. [laughter]. [speaking native tongue] translator the meeting i had with the president , his approach and the way he addresses [inaudible] you asked is a very strong power and their ability to intervene for good are very, very important. I want to confirm that the meeting that we had was very productive. Not a moment did i feel that was threatened at anytime. I saw there is very fertile outlook here, in order to set aside any differences we may have, to find the Common Ground. The Common Ground which is really important for the relationship between the two, our two peoples that are traditional and historical, and for our common objectives. We need common values. We have common values. Excuse me, dont forget, that the value of democracy and freedom was born in greece and it is one of the basic values that traverses American Culture and american tradition. The president today, of the u. S. , is continues this tradition. And i think that collaboration will be very substantial. Im very optimistic after the meeting we had today. I might just add that, a number of countries were a little bit nervous at the beginning. I have very good relationships with the leaders of virtually every country i have dealt with, but the reason they were concerned was because i will not allow our country, the United States of america, to be taken advantage of by so many other countries all over the world. If you look at our trade deficits, massive trade deficits with either allly every country virtually every country. And you look at jobs going out to other countries, theyre firing people, the product is made elsewhere and sold back into the United States, im not going to be allowing that. I understand how the certain countries and certain countries may feel. Well not allow the United States being taken advantage of by other countries anymore and there is nothing we can do about that, thank you. You have a question. Reporter mr. Prime minister, how do you plan to attract long term Foreign Direct Investments in greece. If you can lap rate the steps greece is making to stop overtaxation to insure investors around the world that greece is ready for business. And mr. President , if i may, why would you encourage the u. S. Companies to invest in greece and how can the u. S. Support the greek efforts to fully turn the page, attract investments and monitor its debts. Thank you. Translator first of all this is a, one thing is to intervene legislatively to attract investment. And it is different to work on a daily basis to implement these intentions in a stable environment. We opted to conflict with the basic illnesses of greek public administration. And to create a friendly environment for Foreign Investment because this is our investment, our investment means jobs. Jobs means less unemployment and it means return of young people that have left greece, educated greeks that left greece to go to other countries to come back to greece. So what did we do . We passed a law in parliament that provides a stable tax environment, tax rate, a fixed tax rate for 12 years, for investments of high value. We simplified the procedures to provide licenses to investments. We, we introduced the fast track process for strategic investments. And we also made significant changes to hit and combat bureaucracy, to digitization of procedures, administrative procedures and in public administration, and our vision is to have a digital public administration. We really want to make it a practice. I personally have created a task force in the Prime Ministers Office for investments. So we can see whether laws are being implemented. Whether there is effectiveness. And we are sending out a strong signal of political will to promote these projects. The president asked me earlier what is happening with the old airport. Where years ago he himself as a businessman in the past was interested in it. And you saw himself, the weaknesses and illnesses of greek public administration. I informed him it is moving on, moving along, and soon well see the area formed into a very large project in greece which will be, were hoping it will be a an attraction for other investments abroad. I would also like to say greece for the first time from the last country is first country in absorbing european funds, Investment Capital from European Investment fund. We find ourselves at a turning point, a point where investments can provide the ability to exit finally the crisis. The message i want to pass on to u. S. Invests that greece is not just an, a tourist attraction in the world but also an investment attraction, an investment destination as well. We have a great confidence in greece. I think its a land of tremendous potential. I know many people look to invest in greece. A lot of problems are behind it. They have a lot of good leadership. They made a lot of difficult decisions. We are helping, as you know, with a massive renovation of their air force and also of airplanes generally going to greece. Theyre looking to buy additional planes from boeing and we are helping, were very much involved with greece and with helping greece get back on its feet. We have a tremendous greek population in this country. People whose heritage is greece. We love that country. One of the most beautiful countries in the world. I think it has great potential. Were helping it along. Jennifer, you want to go . Reporter thank you, mr. President. Sure. Reporter i have a question for both of but let me start with you, mr. President. Let me give you a quick question about the Federal Reserve. Do you have any other candidates youre looking at other than powell, yellen, the five that have already been named . Are you looking at anyone besides those folks . I would say within the five you will probably getting the answer. I will make the decision over next fairly short period of time. Reporter can you say who your favorite is at this point . Honestly i like them all. I do. I have a Great Respect for all of them. But i make a decision over next short period of time. Reporter can i ask you a quick obamacare question as well even though john roberts . Sure, sure. Reporter Lamar Alexander made a deal with patty murray to stablize with obamacare. Is the white house involved in those negotiations and will you support the deal . Yes, we have been involved. This is shortterm deal, because we think ultimately block grants going to the states will be answer. We think that is very good solution. We think it will not only save money but give people much Better Health care with very much smaller premium spike. You look what has gone on with that. Much lower deductibles so they can use it. Lamar is working very, very hard with democratic, his colleagues on the other side. Patty murray is one in particular. Theyre coming up with a fairly shortterm solution. The solution will be about a year or two years. It will get us over this intermediate hump. We have, we either have the votes or very close to having votes. We will get the votes for having really the potential of having Great Health Care in our country. So they are indeed working but its a shortterm solution so that we dont have this very dangerous period including dangerous period for Insurance Companies by the way, for a period of one year, two years. We will have a very good solution but were going to have a great solution ultimately for health care. Okay . They are working together. And i know very much what theyre doing, okay . Thank you. Thank you. Mr. Prime minister, on turkey, do you still regard turkey as a democracy . Should turkey remain a member of nato . Translator i have to say that despite our concerns recording turkey, despite our concerns towards intervention we respect the turkish course towards europe. We respect it as a regional power. We believe it must stay or remember ended toward the european perspective. Stay oriented with its collaboration with the west and staibably oriented towards nato. We do believe the european outlook perspective of turkey can also be it can be a lever of pressure so we have reforms over democratization for the rest of the country. So my answer to your question is relatively easy. We do believe turkey must be remain in nato and its european course but on the other side, we have to sure and we make it clear to this ally of ours and its government, the road to europe and the stay and collaboration with the west has certain conditions and certain responsibilities. One of the certain conditions is and responsibilities is respect International Law and collaborate and not promote tension with allied countries such as greece. This is our basic direction and i do believe we have the opportunity to go in detail on this matter with President Trump to explain need for fulfillment of these conditions so there are clear messages. Also, toward the turkish administration. Thank you. Mr. Prime minister, how do you, as greeks like to hear about the deal, strategic importance of greece in the region, what is your government planning to do to enhance this role and to, for the benefit of the bilateral relationship and for specifically so the bay, are there any plans for you . Mr. President , you praised greeces role in nato with the contribution and control of region do you see as potential of greece being a pillar of stability in the region . What would the u. S. Like to see happening in, in order for greece to see this potential . I would start by saying i think it has a great role in stability in the area. We have a feeling it will get stronger and stronger. Potential, once it gets over the tremendous financial hurdle in process of working out, we think there will be great stability in greece of militarily we look every way very important and very important to the United States. We have great confidence in greece as a nation. We have great confidence what theyre doing relative to their military. We know they have plans to do specific things, and we know they will be ally for many, many years to come. And they have been an ally and weve been very reliable to them. Well be a friend for many, many years and stability is very important and we look to that with respect to greece as a key. Thank you. Translator as regards the issues were going to be taking but also regarding the initiatives that we have taken to broaden the strategic role as reliable partner, both in the eu and nato, for this moment we took over the administration, we , moved and proceeded to a new dogma through the minister of Foreign Affairs but to enhance the role of greece as a country thats a pillar of safe security and stability in a very sensitive and unstable area of the region. We enhanced our collaboration with two significant partners, in the area. Egypt and israel. And greece cyprus with israel and greece cyprus with egypt and other partners in the area as well with lebanon. Our goal with the collaborations to insure the collaboration, stability, peace and joint development, joint growth in this area. Of course greece, for a number of years has been playing as underlined earlier, it plays a very, role of a reliable ally of the u. S. But it also has a unique different feature. Greece may be talking with the arab world, with other countries in the east. So it is not just a nato member. Its a useful ally for the United States of america. Now as regards create and and suda bay, we know its a special strategic importance and evaluated, jointly evaulated. I think we are doing good work there and it can and must be up graded, enhanced. This is so beautiful, the rose garden, but even the media likes it. That is heart to believe but the media likes it. Mr. Prime minister, we look forward to many, many years of the friendship together. Keep up the good work. Thank you very much. [applause] trish youve been watching President Trump speaking live there at a joint News Conference with the Prime Minister of greece. The president thanking the Prime Minister for greeces commitment, military and defense in the face of course of all those growing threats from around the globe. I am trish regan. Welcome, everyone, to the special edition of the Intelligence Report, live from chicago. The Prime Ministers visit comes as greece tries to pull itself out of the decadeslong depression with certain challenging Economic Times there. They are trying to urge the Trump Administration to boost u. S. Investment in greeces volatile economy and donald trump indicated that might indeed happen. Right here at home, our economy looking good or at least our markets hitting good. The dow hitting 23,000 earlier today. Were now at 22,982. We have seen today the 50th record high since the president took office. The question is there anything out there that can derail the bull market . If we dont get tax reform will that derail the bull market . I dont think were in a bubble. Some are concerned we might be. Well talk about all sides of that when we bring you latest from wall street straight ahead. First, lets go to our top story. The president telling greeces Prime Minister, has a partner in the United States. Go straight to blake burman in the rose garden. Blake . Reporter remarkable pleasantries, considering what the Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras had to say about trump during the 2016 campaign. At one point he called the president evil or suggested his nomination would be evil. But as you heard theyre trying to move past this they believe u. S. And greece could be able partners and you saw the ceremony in the rose garden. Started off, what you were talking about, trish, nothing to do with the u. S. Greece rips, which is the stock market where on a day the dow hit another record or touched at one point 23,000. Those were the first comments president said, indeed this is a record. President trump saying that hopes greece can do the same thing too. Either way this is something the white house is trying to keep in the forefront the stock market runup, a day we have history at corner of wall and broad, the first thing president talked about during this ceremony. As for questions asked here by the american media, trish, my colleague john roberts glad he asked it about obamacare and really health care the way forward considering republicans had failed earlier this summer trying to repeal and replace obamacare and failed last month to get the grahamcassidy measure through, john asked the president , well, mr. President , what is the republican plan . What is your plan, what is the Health Care Plan Going Forward . And the president once again threw his weight behind the grahamcassidy bill, block grants to the states that the schedule is ambitious one. Try to do the budget now. Taxes after that, and then grahamcassidy in early part of the year. The second bit of news that the president made indeed confirming, trish, that he is down to a handful of candidates for the Federal Reserve chair. That being of course janet yellen an gary cohn, who is the top Economic Advisor but jerome powell, a current fed board member and jon john warsh. That decision is expected before the president heads off to asia. Trish . Trish thank you, blake. We have ned ryun, steve cortes. Good to have you both here. Youre first dibs here. Youre live in chicago with me. What is your reaction with the president trying to explain health care saying obamacare is virtually dead . Welcome, trish. We have gorgeous october day. Im sure youre here to dig the cubs out of the 02 deficit in the nlcs. No, turning back to business and politics, the obamacare is disaster. He tried to do it right way on capitol hill. Unfortunately Senate Republicans in my opinion every bit as much a part of the establishment as democrats are complicit in the cronyism and terrible sill that has been so beneficial to them, so detrimental to america. They have stymied his efforts and doing what he can through executive orders, relieving depression on americans see their care staying same or getting worse but costs increasing. Trish my big concern in all of this, ned, i will send it back to you here, tax reform could be in fact in jeopardy. If we see republicans not able to get their act enoug
