Congressman james who told the New York Times that the allegations against congressman conyers quote could be made up. So what will it take to end this hypocrisy . Lets bring in a panel Tammy Bruce Fox news contributor, an independent women voice board of directors and a Washington Times columnist Beverly Hallberg and contributor to the hill and gabby, a Washington Examiner white house correspondent. Ladies, thanks for joining us. Tammy, you wrote an article today. The liberal roots of feminism. We just got to breaking news on the first democratic congressperson, congresswoman, as a matter of fact, to call for conyers to step down. No such calls for al franken. And heres the thing what makes it so frustrating for a lot of folks is that the avalanche effect until now this week a disaster for the democratic party, a disaster for the progressives, a disaster for the progressive Mainstream Media and very reluctant to call for anyone to step down. Yeah. Well, my column is really about the beginning of this, which was the president that was set during the clinton years by the democrats. Pretty much scorched destroying the accusers of bill clinton, accepting what he was doing, effectively saying that if youre right on the issues or you proclaim your feminism loud enough, you will get a free pass. Ironically now 25 years later, were seeing that chicken come home to roost. This is why theres such a volume here because the messaging then was that if youre right on the issues, we will look away with what else you may be doing. Were now seeing that implemented. Columnist with the New York Times, others questioning the nature of whether or not this is appropriate because if theyre good enough on the issues, then we shouldnt go after our own. But this is what has caused this catastrophe. Its the mentality. So the democrats, though, they have a political framework here. If they have the precedent of a resignation, we know that theres been 17 million paid out. How many more democrats then would either have to resign or calls for their removal . That, i think, is their concern. They should be concerned. But, really, we need to clean house at this point, dont we . Charles sure. Beverly, the intraspeck that tammy is talking about, kathleens ability to form the head of the hhs and, of course, the governor of kansas came out and said not only did people look the other way, but the went after the women who came forward and accused him, referring to bill clinton and all of the other accusations against him. And so doubled down onto only bad behavior but abusive behavior and people tactic victims. Obviously very, very damning comments there. But people were saying its little too late to go after the clintons. You have al franken and now conyers among others. Yeah. And i would say this is true hip oka hypocrisy across the table on this. Some feminists out there, one called kate hardie whos the coeditor of a book called nasty woman and has come out and said al franken should not step down she said because i care about the votes he has. I care about his issues. And i was at that womens march last year right after trump won, didnt agree with a lot of the positions that the women took because they made it all about donald trump and his past statements. So i find it highly hypocritical, especially to women who call themselves feminists to say, oh, its fine if al franken stays. But donald trump and others like him need to go. So i think the hypocrisy is definitely highlighted in the past few weeks. Gabby, theres no doubt in my mind that a lot of progressives probably didnt anticipate the averag avalanche of accusations and the pendulum swinging back so quickly to put the spotlight on themselves. And now theyve got to sort of fight against this sort of precedent that they set when it was the roy moores of the world. Absolutely. And i think beverly hit it on the head. Not only is this hypocritical of people on the left, but its really peak moral relativism to see folks like Michelle Goldberg, that New York Times columnist who initially called for al franken to resign and then later said, well, you know, i realize that he may have groped this woman and made some inappropriate jokes throughout his career as a comedian. But hes been so good on so many womens issues for so long that maybe we should let him stick around in the senate. I mean, thats what were hearing right now from progressives from members of congress who are on the left. And i really do think that its a moment of reckoning for them. But not only for them, for conservatives also. I mean, this does go across the board. There are allegations leveled right now against roy moore, a republican candidate for senate, and i do think that there needs to be careful attention paid to both sides of the aisle in terms of how they react to these accusers and these situations. Listen, tammy, i think what were going to find out is probably end up circling back to the notion of due process. Yeah. Charles the lynch amoebas that rose up when it was an issue on the right during the summer and more recently a couple of weeks ago. Now were having a hard time applying that same form of justice to themselves, including the Michelle Goldberg who said almost as soon as she published that article, she started having second thoughts. Basically because she liked the guy. Well, thats fine but because you dont like roy moore, its okay to file on him. Well, for those who are too young to remember. Again, this year is the 22nd anniversary on the campaign on checkered, actually. This is a generational issue now and the argument is exactly the same as it was with bill clinton at the time. But when it comes to life with roy moore, youve seen whether its Mitch Mcconnell and others be very direct about how he should withdraw and does not deserve to be in the senate. But then Mitch Mcconnell has a few things to answer for. He has his hands for with people already in the senate that he has been silenced about. Where is he for the call on Mitch Mcconnell on that regard . We do want consistency. We absolutely want that and my prediction is, look, what weve already seen. Its going to be about 70 30 when it comes to democrats being affected versus republicans. But no matter who it is, it has to be dealt with considerably. And we have to make sure that they dont conflate consensual relationships, versus a guy being a jerk and sault assault. And these are things we have to remember. Charles he apologized for the photograph, he didnt deny for the allegation because he denies it so far. Correct. Charles these are tweets from republicans and it says every leader in each of us is human and flawed and makes mistakes. But theres a difference between those who are flawed who work for the common good and those who are flawed who could care less about the common good. Huge difference. I mean, really . Does that really matter when youre talking about assault and things like that . Well, i would say when you take a look at really the domino effect of the allegations that have come out, whether its against men who work in media, men who are politicians, men who are movie executives, i think one of the things we have to keep in mind, especially with elected officials is these were people who were elected to represent the public good. Theyre supposed to be Public Servants. So while things should be dealt with in the court of law as far as innocent until proven guilty, i think when you have allegations against elected officials, that needs to be taken seriously because politics is also about charles should we take it so seriously that guilty until proven innocent . I think we definitely need to take a look at these stories to see if there is truth there. We need to make sure that there arent people making up those stories. But i think when youve seen multiple women coming out, when youve seen women explaining their situation in detail when you can corroborate their stories, i think you have to take that seriously. But i would say these Public Servants and especially when you look at representative conyers who took taxpayer money to settle a harassment case, that is extremely disturbing. Charles gabby and, of course, politics plays into it. Power washington, d. C. The swamp. All of those key ingredients. And you have to wonder. What ultimately will happen with this if there will be any meaningful change . Well, i would hope that everybody whos in congress right now calling for reform, calling for incidents like the ones weve heard come forward earlier this week for no longer to happen would also support the termination of this hush fund, basically, that exists on capitol hill who are accused for Sexual Harassment and using taxpayer money to silence their accusers and pay them off in settlements and to make sure that those situations are never made public. I think thats one of the biggest issues here. We need some transparency on that. Absolutely. Its extremely difficult to hold these folks accountable when were not even accountable on the allegations made. Charles i agree, ladies. Not only is congress using taxpayer hush money to pay off sexual hamptons, but they built them a moat that shields them from the laws that we live by. So time to drain the moat . Well be back. Charles turns out theres a bipartisan push to make allegations more transparent on capitol hill. This after revelations that a Taxpayer Fund ironically known as the congressional accountability account. So far to pay for more than 17 million in congressional settlements since 1997. With me now Lawrence Jones of blaze tv also radio host and katie of the rnc spokesperson. Let me start with you on this, caylee. Of course, one of the more ironic names in congress. Would Say Something as an accountability act and all it has done is shield congress from the very laws that everyone else lives by. In fact, yesterday President Trump saying he would love to see the names of these people involved in these settlements. Thats right. And that would be a great measure to unveil some of these names that have been shrouded in secrecy. Some of these congressmen who have settled these claims with taxpayer dollars would be a huge step forward. This is unbelievable what were seeing come out of congress, that taxpayer dollars went to this. And the accountability act has not promoted accountability. And i think congressman bradley whos proposing these changes, theyre muchneeded changing. We need to have teeth to this socalled office of compliance. Allow the accusers to go before an administrative judge, not just have their names shrouded in secrecy. Its not working the way its currently set up. Charles representative from alabama saying he would like to see the office have the compliance and the power to investigate and the power to also subpoena people thunder situation. Youve taken a pretty hard stance with respect to this. But its not its not unusual for congress to shield themselves from things everyone else has to live with. Yeah. Charles, this is nothing new no matter if youre talking about, like, issues like obamacare where congress exempted themselves. They pretty much do this with pretty much all pieces of legislation they find some type of loophole as they go through the legislative process. But i will push back on this whole notion that this needs to stay within congress. I think there needs to be an independent agency or something within the private sector to review this type of case that theyve had in congress. It is stunning to me that this has been going on for years. Yet no one said anything about this, any congressman that you ask, whether its in the freedom caucus, many people that i respect, they say they didnt know about it. And i wonder why is this the leadership shielding this . I think the American People deserve answers and if we truly want those answers, i think it should be the american public, maybe someone in the private sector conducting these investigations. Charles well, yeah, or certainly third party wouldnt be a bad idea. Caylee, also representative is working on something as well, and hes calling it the conyers rule where you can use your Office Budget to camouflage these sort of payments because theres some speculation that the conyers payments didnt even come out of that congressional pool of money but his own office. Charles, you hit on a key point here. So we that know 17 million from this office of compliance went out to settle these employment disputes. Many of which were Sexual Harassment. When you make a key point. How much money went directly allotted to individual congressmans office to settle some of these claims . As you mention, the conyers incident, it was settled with office funding, not office of compliance funding. So how many individuals have used even more taxpayer dollars on to be of whats been provided by this committee . We need to get to the bottom of this. We need to investigate this to the fullest extent. I know paul ryans looking into this, as he should because its inexcusable as it is now. Charles, i think were focusing on more the taxpayers money but i think just me being a private investigator, the expansion needs to expand maybe this was money that came out of campaigns that we didnt know about, which would be a violation of federal law as well. Were these people that were all powerful congressmen or senators not only using taxpayer money but money from contributors moms and dads that were giving towards their campaign . Charles yeah, well, hopefully something will happen this time. Theres a massive uproar and when we look back, weve got to see some key changes. Thank you, both, very much. Really appreciate it. Thank you, charles. Charles coming up, key republican swing vote now backing the senates obamacare individual mandate repeal, which takes us one step closer to gop tax reform. It must happen if this rally continues. Well discuss that next. Liberty mutual saved us almost eight hundred dollars when we switched our auto and home insurance. With liberty, we could afford a real babysitter instead of your brother. Hey. Oh. Thats my robe. Is it . You could save seven hundred eighty two dollars when liberty stands with you. Liberty mutual insurance. Charles king swing vote senator Lisa Murkowski from alaska coming around now on the Senate Tax Bill saying she supports repealing obamacares individual mandate, thats the insurance part of it that raises 300 billion. Murkowski, however, has yet to offer a full endorsement of the tax package. But there are more hurdles emerging on the other side of the aisle as the overhaul prospect democrats and progressive groups they say the legislation will have lavish benefits on corporations and the rich while harming the middle class. Here to discuss with me now Fox News Contributor joy murdock, kevin paul scott, and back with us caylee. Let me start with you. Obviously, we anticipate or expect the democratic attack ads. There are even some on the right who are specifically attacking republicans in the senate who may have an aversion to deficits. But Lisa Murkowski coming around on that is a key, key component. We know that theyve narrowed this down to a handful of senators that they must somehow appease or lower into this. No. That is good news because theyve certainly went south on the Obamacare Repeal effort on a couple of occasions and helped derail that. So the fact that shes moving into the column is a big plus. And on this question what we do about the individual mandate what i recommend republicans do is rather than talking about repealing the obamacare mandate, really, what they should do is use the following words make obamacare voluntarily. Thats what youre doing. If you want to keep your obamacare, you can keep it. If you want to step away from it, you can do so without being penciled and most of these happen to make less than 75,000, its really taking that tax away basically as middle class tax relief. So its all about making obamacare voluntarily. Charles kevin, let me ask you as a businessman. What would that mean . Because we know businesses, particularly smaller businesses who were crushed by some of the new rules that came along with obamacare, particularly involving businesses that might grow beyond 50 employees. Yeah. This is a huge deal. Its why we have to get the tax reform passed. The challenge is, you know, the bill is not perfect, but its progress, and thats why weve got to bring the republicans together. Murkowski is a big element. The challenge now is that republicans have to walk this tightrope of trying to win over collins from maine without losing these budget hawks youre talking about. So the republicans have to realize progress is better than perfection here and verifying out how to get this passed. All right, caylee, where do we stand now. I think thats well said. Murkowski, its a encouraging sign from her, we have to make sure to get collins and make sure to get the necessary 50 votes with, of course, Vice President pence as the tiebreaker if needed. But its important and encouraging this past thursday in the house and the same day it passed the Senate Finance committee. Now the onus is on the senate to get the full votes. This is something all republicans should agree on and, by the way, democrats should come onboard with because i remember a day or reading about a day in the jfk days when democrats used to be for empowering the American People and taking a bet on the American People. No longer, it seems. Charles lets be honest. We know thats not going to happen. So if we just focus on the republicans and mcmulvaney, i dont know if he helped the situation over the weekend. Seemed wishy washy on the individual mandate aspec
