All the averages are down for the week but right now the dow is up 824 points in the session, s p up 104 and change, nasdaq is up 355 points. Lauren i will take it. Lets take a look at commodities this morning. Oil prices, 26. 78 a barrel, a gain of 6. 2 . Gold up 2 at 1508 an ounce. Cheryl we have seen historic moves in the 10 year treasury, in the bond market in general. Take a look at this. We are down 11 basis points, the yield is 1. 048 . Thats actually a good thing for a lot of Bond Investors out there. Lauren major bounceback in asia, if you take a look at the kospi, sold off yesterday, up 7 andahalf percent overnight. The Chinese Market up 1. 6 . The nikkei closed for a holiday. Cheryl over in europe, the markets had a snapback yesterday, 818 billion infusion that went into the eurozone helped sentiment and the sentiment is picking up again today. The ftse is up almost 3 . The cac is up 5 . The dax is up almost 5 andahalf percent. And right now, President Trump is working hand in hand with the fda for a breakthrough treatment to fight the pandemic. The president is directed the fda to fast track Clinical Trials on drugs showing promise, in particular, the malaria drug, chloroquine, for the virus. The safety level we understand very well. Reporter the fda commissioner who will now aggressively pursue it also notes that its important not to provide false hope to anyone. Meanwhile, all eyes right here on capitol hill, debate on phase three of the Economic Relief bill called the cares act kicks off in the senate. Its a trillion dollar plus package bringing direct financial help for americans, Small Businesses and employees and healthcare professionals. Heres how the payments will break down. It would be 1200 to adults or 2400 to couples, plus 500 per child. However, there would be income caps, 99,000 per individual or 198,000 per couple. It also has billions for big businesses in Industries Like the airlines. Chuck schumer says hes got concerned that have been left out of the drafting and worries it doesnt go far enough for workers but Mitch Mcconnell says its simply time to act. Loffler sold off millions in stocks after getting a private briefing. Lauren the state department issued the highest travel warning, telling americans overseas come home or stay put. State department is asking all americans who are currently traveling abroad to return home immediately or potentially get stuck wherever theyre at. This as the coronavirus does continue to spread around the world and overnight the global death toll did reach 10,000. In italy, more than 3,000 people have died. The exact number just over 3,400, actually putting the italians above the chinese when it comes to the death toll, since this outbreak first began. Theres been such a rapid increase in fatalities that italian authorities called in the military to move bodies from hospitals and homes to morgues and cemeteries. In china, life appears to be returning to normal. The Chinese Government reported 39 new cases on thursday and reports indicate the entire country has under 7,000 active case was more than 70,000 people having recovered. There are questions arising about how honest the government is being regarding the number of positive infections. In israel, Benjamin Netanyahu issued a state of emergency. We are confident that the people in the state of california will abide by it. Reporter in texas, Governor Greg Abbott is taking drastic measures to slow the virus down. The state will be under a Public Health disaster declaration, meaning bars, restaurants and gyms all across the state will be closed. Streets in the city that never sleeps expected to get emptier. Andrew cuomo demanding businesses cut down on employees leaving their homes as numbers skyrocket in the state. The numbers have gone up overnight. No more than 25 of people can be in the workforce, as a mandate, 75 of your Employee Base must work from home. If they already dont know whether a stock trades the nasdaq or New York Stock Exchange, i dont think theyll see any change that would impact their lives. As for the institutional investor, the large funds, some of them do count on the opening and closing auctions that are conducted by human beings at the New York Stock Exchange. So there could be maybe some awkwardness on monday until theres some getting used to it. I do think there is definitely still a demand for the services that the floor brokers provide, of course im biased. Cheryl sure. But i do believe that this will be temporary. I dont know how long it will be, but this will be temporary and the need for what those fellows on the floor do is still there. Cheryl Federal Reserve, unprecedented stimulus this week. I dont want to jinks anything. At this point, this could be a second straight day of gains. What signal do you need to tell you that we have reached the end of this selling spree for markets . From a macro point of view we need to know the economy has stopped getting worse and thats not going to happen for a while. Im not going to trust the bottom for quite some time. The fed has done all the right thing, from quantitative easing which will have to get larger, thats a fact of life, to easing commercial papers, primary bond dealers, the fed is being aggressive and doing all the right things. Now we need to see the fiscal package which will probably be the first of at least two. But we need to see the house democrats, the Senate Republicans and Administration Come together and i believe they will because there is a sense of urgency among them. That will help from a financial perspective. Thats not really a fiscal stimulus package, thats a fiscal support package. We see the initial jobless claims, its going to frighten people. There needs to be support for the household, support for Small Businesses and support for so many industries. Cheryl were warning our viewers about that initial jobless claims report next week. I think if we all prepare for it, were going to be okay. You talk about three groups of stocks, the rebound group, the Revenue Group and then the virus group. In the virus group you talk bout clorox, regeneron, campbells soup, and youve got the nations food suppliers that are working in overdrive, whether its tyson, sanderson farms, to stock up grocery shelves. Dont you look for opportunity in those groups . Well, yes. The thing with the food supply, this is so important right now. How many of us have gone to the Grocery Store in the last few days for our families. Otherwise, we w should be limitg contact with the human race. Apparently theres enough food in the country but it was meant for restaurants. Now its headed to the Grocery Stores and the other challenge for the whole industry is maintaining the health of their labor supply, from the people working in the farms, all the way to transportation. And when it comes to sharing medical information about the coronavirus, axios is reporting that if china acted three weeks earlier, if they did more and did it sooner we could have cut the number of infections by 95 , gordon. Thats right. That comes from a university in britain and it clearly shows that that was just nonpharmaceutical interventions so if you add in pharmaceutical interventions, that number, 95 , goes even higher. The only reason why china shared the genome is because some chinese viroligict, defied beijing. It shows that beijing was trying to hide basic information from the world. That would have prevented us from working on vaccines and other things. So were dealing with a secretive communist state that is hostile to the United States, that is actually spreading disinformation that we were the ones that brought coronavirus to china, actually the u. By the end of the year, these may look like incredibly discounted levels. At this point, i think you need to lauren youre not calling for a bottom but you are banking on a rebound. We can do everything we can to try to reduce it and head in the right direction but we dont have control over the turning point and thats whats making the market so anxious. All of this monetary action is intended to stabilize markets and ease Credit Conditions as much as possible and so far its been successful regardless of what weve seen in equity markets. The action is to try to keep businesses afloat and reduce unemployment from rising as much as possible. We are going to see it regardless, thats inevitable. But both of these measures are going to dramatically accelerate any bounce we do have in the markets when it happens. I think thats going to be when were going to see the full implications of all of these policy actions. It cant reverse the Market Trends on it own but it can accelerate it when it does. People arent getting paychecks, theyre stuck in their homes. Not everyone has honest intentions and theyre concerned about looting in american cities, theyre concerned about robberies, concerned about attacks even just petty shift if someone is on the street. Is it too early to have that discussion, steve . No, it isnt. We should be having it now. And there should be a plan as took place when we had the swine flu, when we had the aids open epidemic. Prisoners were not released. Cheryl im not talking about prisoners, im talking about people that are out there. The criminal element living in american cities, not those in prisons but folks that are desperate, with no money, will they go out on the street and do something nefarious. Its very possible that could happen. This is why we must be vigilant, we must not hesitate to call the police if we see suspicious people in our neighborhoods, danger to Law Enforcement is a real thing now. There is a possibility we could see a spike in crime. Saying that, if people are vigilant and keep an eye on their neighborhoods and their homes, i dont see that there will be a major epidemic of crime in this country. Are we at that point . No, were not at that point, especially the new York City Police department is one of the best Police Departments in the country. Ive been around. Ive talked to Law Enforcement officers in small towns and large cities. Things are pretty well secure right now. Can you define participation and are you charging them . Totally. Yes. We did decide to charge. Were about day four in right now and the response has been incredible. We launched on monday with a full class, monday morning, we offered four classes and every day since monday attendance has increased to the point where when i was looking at the average class size yesterday it was bigger than the inperson class size. Were seeing engagement, students are signing on early to classes and staying later and chatting with each other on the calls which is just like really incredible to see. Were also seeing that engagement in our social media platforms.
