Us and Edward Lawrence in d. C. Grady, we heard from the president at the roundtable. Youre on the move from the outside. What is the latest from kenosha . Reporter a lot of supporters for the president were here this afternoon and got a glimpse of him as his motorcade went by. They largely thinned out, is a handful of protesters here in the park as well as at the courthouse. This is the backdrop to the president s visit today. He toured the damage, met with local Business Owners, several of whom lost everything in the rioting of last week. He also had that roundtable with Law Enforcement officials. He thanked them for their help. He offered help to other cities like portland and announced one Million Dollars to the Kenosha Police department and 42 million to Law Enforcement agencies across wisconsin. He praised them for their work here, getting a handle on the situation in kenosha. Listen. President trump these gentlemen did a fantastic job working with the federal government. It was really great. Once we said, lets go, that was the end of it. Unfortunately they had a few days when people wouldnt call us. They didnt want to have us come in. Reporter there were worries that the president s visit would cause tensions to flare today. That really did not happen from what we saw. We saw supporters and protesters getting into it, arguing, shouting. I would describe it as tense but all in all peaceful except there was one this one moment where we saw a protester throw water at one of the Trump Supporters but that was really the only instance of anything that escalated from just arguing. The president also announced today, that he plans to speak with the pastor of jacob blakes family. He also said that he wants to speak with jacob blakes mother in the coming days. Connell . Connell live now to congressman ryan style. Republican out of wisconsin, represents the kenosha area and the congress, has been traveling with the president throughout the day, continues to do so. I believe you guys are making your way out of town. Im told congressman styles was calling in to us on the phone, the phone call dropped. He was and is in the president s motorcade. So that is why maybe we have a little bit after connection problem. Well take a second. I am sure well get him back on the phone, but melissa has more right now. Melissa meanwhile treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin testifying before Congress Today as covid19 relief talks remain at an impasse. Edward lawrence is in washington with the details on that. Edward . Reporter melissa, treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin blasted by House Democrats on capitol hill saying that he should come up to where House Speaker nancy pelosi is for the good of americans and the United States economy. Now representative Maxine Waters says that the blame game just isnt working for the struggling americans. Listen. We have 100 billion in the heroes act for rental assistance. Please, please, get back to the negotiating table. Forget all of this name blame mess reporter mnuchin reminded democrats actually House Speaker nancy pelosi who doesnt want to break out those things that have already sort of been agreed upon. Both sides agree should happen. Work on harder stuff later. He believes that mnuchin, believes they should pass Paycheck Protection Program further helping Small Businesses allowing 131 billion left over in the pot to be targeted to the hardest hit sectors like hotels, travel, entertainment. Mnuchin says both sides agree on expanded Unemployment Benefits and direct checks to americans and money to schools. He said they would like to work out the rest, big Sticking Point of direct payments to states later. House speaker deputy chief of staff tells me that is not accurate that both sides agreed on funding levels. Democrats repeatedly compromised in these negotiations. We offered to come down 1. 2 trillion. We welcome the white house back to the negotiating table but they must meet us in the middle. For mnuchin this is all about two things, jobs and kids. Republicans on the House Committee saying that democrats are holding back at least one of those things. Listen. Is it fair to say if democrat governors would let people go back to work in their states we would probably have less unemmoment . I believe there is no question that the reason we have unemployment is that certain states are not opening up and that there are issues. Obviously some of that has to be balanced with the medical issues appropriately but we would expect unemployment to drop significantly between now and the end of the year. Reporter mnuchin he expects to talk to House Speaker nancy pelosi on the phone. Last communication between the two sides was last week. Back to you. Melissa edward, thank you so much. Lets go back over to connell to see if that phone connection is working now. Connell . Connell right. I dont know about pelosi and mnuchin but we hope to speak to congressman brian style, traveling with the president on the way out of kenosha, wisconsin. I mentioned congressman, when i introduced you you were with the president throughout the day. A lot of controversy. Democrats, governor, said he shouldnt go to ken. He did. You were with him. How did it go with your perspective . Want to thank the men and women in the Law Enforcement community who helped restore Public Safety to the city of kenosha. The president coming in making the statement he did on wednesday enough is enough. Were going to put an end to the violence, to the criminal activity, well restore Public Safety is terrific. He is healing the city and were in the process of rebuilding kenosha and making it stronger than ever. Connell we talk all the time on our program about Small Business, we see pictures of the president visiting earlier with local residents. So many Small Businesses in the area were hit hard by protests and looting. The president committing four Million Dollars for Small Business in wisconsin. How is the rebuilding for those folks going . This is where your heart really aches. When you talk to the men and women whose businesses, whose places of employment were damaged or burned to the ground, this is what it is going to take to rebuild. Today to the city of kenosha begins that process. Well look to build on that at the state and local level, with the entrepreneurs themselves, to rebuild back these businesses. Make sure people have jobs to go back to. And then we need to continue to grow and strengthen in the community of kenosha. Again we need kenosha stronger than ever before. The president committing his federal resources to that today was a great first step. Connell now the state of wisconsin as we learned is so split politically. The area in kenosha is quite diverse i understand it as well. How, from your own constituents and people you hear from is the president s message, that law and order message selling or resonating . I can tell you were driving right now out of the city of kenosha, going through Kenosha County and the support is overwhelmingly the number of people standing on the side of the road thanking the president for coming to the city of kenosha. Thanking him for the federal resources that were brought to bear to restore Public Safety to the city of kenosha. I dont think it is political as much as it shows the leadership of making sure were getting resources to the local Law Enforcement so they can provide Public Safety here in the community of kenosha. Connell feel like the worst is behind you now, congressman . I feel confident that we have restored Public Safety as really getting into wednesday when federal resources came to the city. They commitment. The criminal element i think has left the city. Now were focused on maintaining that Public Safety in the days, weeks, months and years ahead. The president committed resources to the local Law Enforcement here in kenosha for the long term to maintain that Public Safety. And now i think it is really the opportunity for the city to begin to rally and rebuild and come back stronger than ever. Connell as a final point, congressman, what would you say about the shooting of jacob blake itself . We didnt hear as much about that today. Senator johnson spoke about it. The president didnt meet with the blake family when he was there. What are your views on now having had time to think and certainly review the video and do some thinking about what happened there about what went wrong, what maybe should happen with the officers involved . What is your views on the shooting that led to the protest. The video is a very difficult video to watch. It is under the investigation by the Wisconsin Department of justice. We need to let the facts play out now and i think justice will ultimately prevail. Connell okay. Do you think the officer at this point is enough for arrests to be made . Youre saying we need to wait a little longer on that . I think the key is to let all the facts come out, let the investigation that is being completed by the Wisconsin Department of justice be completed and then let justice follow the facts. Make sure we have you will at facts and let justice follow the facts. Connell congressman bryan style represents kenosha in wisconsin, literally traveling with the president in the president ial motorcade after a day in kenosha. Melissa. Melissa lets go to Jackie Deangelis with more on the markets right now. Reporter good afternoon to you, melissa. I want to take a look where we settled out. The dow closed up by 215 points. It is now back in positive territory 2020. So that is important to note. The gains on the s p 500 and nasdaq, as you mentioned those are all new records as well. On the s p 500 it was its 21st record close. For the nasdaq it is its 42nd record close. You have momentum about reopening and progress in washington impacting these markets but general optimism overall. On the dow we saw technology, like apple fueling the ral hi. But also walmart and sales force were the days winners as well. Want to finish on apple. After splitting four for one yesterday. You can see apple closed at 134. 18. It hit an intraday alltime high. Didnt keep it at the close but still up 4 . Back to you. Melissa jackie, thank you for that. Connell . Connell we talked, melissa, about wisconsin. Also portland were covering. 96 Straight Days of unrest in that city. Hundreds of protesters flooding the streets overnight in portland. The Trump Administration delivering a new warning to officials. Were on the scene there. That report is coming up. Seeking to convince pivotal swing state voters, democratic president ial nominee joe biden appears to be flipflopping on a key economic issue that is really, really important in a key swing state. New york citys mayor bill de blasio touting a new deal with the citys biggest Teachers Union which was able to avert a looming strike. Well be right back. Eased risk for shingles. The pain, the burning my husband had to do everything for weeks. And the thing is, theres nothing you can do about it [camera man] well, shingles can be prevented. Shingles can be whaaat . [camera man] prevented. You can get vaccinated. Frank they have shingles vaccines whaaat . Thats what i said. Were taking you to the doctor. Not going through that again. [camera man] you can also get it from your pharmacist talk to your doctor or pharmacist about getting vaccinated. Connell now joe biden hitting back at President Trump. The democratic nominee slamming the president on violence and u. S. Cities, also denying woe ban fracking if he were elected president. Hillary vaughn live in washington with the details on all of this. Hillary. Reporter connell, really democratic nominee joe biden is the one sending these mixed messages to voters. On the debate stage while standing next to progressive Bernie Sanders, joe biden picked himself as someone who is antifracking but yesterday talking to pennsylvania voters it was his position, was that he does not support a ban on fracking. I am not banning fracking. Let me say that again. I am not banning fracking. No matter how many times donald trump lies about me. Would there be any place for fossil fuel including coal and fracking in a Biden Administration . No. We would, we would work it out. We would make sure it is eliminated and no more sub sip disfor either one of those. Anybody can go down 3,000 feet in a mine sure can learn how to program as well. Give me a break. Anybody that can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program. Reporter the Trump Campaign calling this is a flipflop on fracking but bidens campaign is denying their candidate contradicted himself. Theyre betting on the fact when biden says he is against fracking voters understand he is really okay with some of it, when biden says he wont ban fracking, voters know that he means he wont ban all of it. Today here is where the Campaign Says biden stands. No fracking on federal lands and ending new oil and gas leases on public lands. Natural Gas Production on federal land makes up 13 of all natural Gas Production. These are, there arent specific breakdowns of what bidens plan would do to the oil and gas industry with his piecemeal approach but a fracking ban entirely, including halting federal land leases would cause major losses in revenue and jobs. A ban would take 1. 3 trillion out of gdp in 2020 alone and take 1. 75 million jobs with it, and a lot of jobs in battleground states why biden on the trail, not straightforward on issue. Florida, 700,000 jobs. In pennsylvania and ohio, over half a million jobs rely on that industry. Connell . Connell yep, pennsylvania as you say. Those other states as well. Hillary vaughn thank you. Melissa. Melissa all right. Here now to discuss all this is James Freeman from the wall street journal. He is assistant editor of the editorial page and he is also a fox news contributor. So, james, just for the record, listen closely to this and tell me if it sounds like a contradiction. Go ahead, play it. Would there be any place for fossil fuels including coal and fracking in a Biden Administration . No. We would, we would work it out. We would make sure it is eliminated and no sore subsidies for either one of those. No more, no new fracking. I am not banning fracking. Let me say that again, i am not banning fracking, no matter how many times donald trump lies about me. Melissa im confused. Or he is confused. Someone is confused. What do you think . So i guess lying about joe biden means playing tapes of joe biden saying what he claims he doesnt say. You know, you can look at this and say, he is sort of a typical politician. Biden, longtime washington swamp creature, trying to have it both ways. I think it is actually the fact that swum happened a successful convention is forcing biden to at least sound moderate or more moderate. Youve seen that with yesterdays speech, finally begrudgingly coming out of the basement and condemning violence and now with this, trying to straddle the fracking issue, biden had been kind of moving left for months is now seeing a threat and really i think is being forced to at least rhetorically move to the middle. Melissa so, i mean i would say this isnt like the normal campaign flipflop or campaign lie where politicians say one thing, do another, i expected that. These are peoples lives and a lot of peoples lives. Yeah. Melissa because it is not like he is saying i may vote this way on this. Banning fracking or as he said, before that he was going to go to no fossil fuels by, he changed the timeline a couple times but you know, went along with Different ThingsBernie Sanders says, if he is telling the truth about banning these things, it means a lot of different jobs, kind of the same way anyone if you can throw coal into a furnace, if you can go down in the ground, sort of dismissing those jobs as meaningless, you know, that you can code at the same time reminds me of this clip. Let me play this one for you, james. Were going to put a lot of coal miners and Coal Companies out of business. Melissa so that is another one where, she said she just misspoke but it had a big impact because she is talking about taking away peoples jobs . Yeah, im glad you played that clip or a guess couple of clips biden saying instead of Traditional Energy you can be a Software Programmer because these are not just offhand remarks. This is really the heart of his massively expensive, two trillion plus proposal to move us out of the Carbon Economy into a alternative energy economy. The whole premise of this plan is that were going to move people from producing fossil fuels into other jobs and i think people will find, if they get moved against their wil
