He wants some sort of symbol early on that he has changed diplomacy and brought back traditional allies which they always mean to be germany and france and hes going to want pageantry out of xi jinping if hes up for the trip, but xi jinping will not sell it for free, he will sell it for free. We will see if thats certified by all the states but i think its going to be hard for him to walk away from the tariffs that President Trump put in place. I think that President Trump completely changed this nature of relations with the United States and china and i just dont that biden is going to be able to walk away from that very easily overnight because of political pressure back home and particularly in congress. I think the tariffs are going to be here for a while, frankly. Dagen christian . I certainly hope thats true. If you look at who is coming in the Biden Administration, we dont have a lot of names. You look at their landing teams and the transition teams its a lot of wall street, a lot of big tech, this is the people that sold us out to china the first time and joe biden didnt accomplish a whole lot in 45 years in washington, one thing he did establish globalism and send our manufacturing, the guy from scranton sending manufacturing to china. The one time joe biden was instrumental was permanent trade relations to china and letting in world trade organization. I hope he turns over a new leaf and realizes we are dealing with a very different china under the strongest, most dangerous leader in the current president xi jinping, but i dont have a lot of faith. We are talking about big tech and big American Companies, i really think that the whole debate or National Discussion about china has fundamentally changed in the last few years, banks in large part to President Trump but a lot of American Companies are very frustrated with china. They were apologist in congress and washington for years but theyve gotten their clock cleaned by the Chinese Government and they are not holding i suspect theyre not going to be so willing to carry water for china in the future. So i really think the whole discussion has changed. I dont know how it moves forward but theres no way we can go back to where we were 5 years ago. Dagen christian, maybe investors and the shareholders of the large americanbased multinationals will hold their feet to the fire about supporting communist china, a country that steals intellectual property from the United States, spies on us and that has 2 million uighur muslims in concentration camps. Not every one of them has severe case but it is clear that people who are older are more likely to be hospitalized and more likely to die and the vaccine strategy is about protecting the most vulnerable so our hospitals are not overwhelmed. So we have to make sure that it works in the elderly. We want to know because many times vaccines dont work as well in the elderly as they do in younger groups. Knowing that the astrazeneca has good immunelogical data is a good sign that this would have good impact on the elderly and would help hospitals not go under when they get inundated with cases. Dagen with the latest news out of pfizer on the 95 efficacy, it was just good news across the board planning to submit to the fda for emergency authorization in a matter of days. What do you know about the Distribution Plans out of the federal government, makesans involvement and how well the federal government is coordinating with the states . Are you involved with any of that . The pfizer one and moderna ones, message rna vaccines, they can get out with speed to americans. Im hopeful that that can happen. Obviously we have concerns and this is part of operation warp speed and we know the Pfizer Vaccine requires special storage conditions and has to be very cold and thats going to be something thats very difficult. There are Companies Like makezan like ups that are working on the distribution. We want to make sure its not just getting to the states we need, we need need to get it to peoples arms. Im not personally involved but its a major task of operation warp speed and vaccine delivery is not a fore gone conclusion. So we will probably see a lot of hiccups and i expect its going to work out but its going to be something that is really the biggest Public Health challenge we face in the history of the country in terms of vaccination programs. Dagen quite frankly just for testing we had all year and new york is still a disaster in terms of testing. If you i am only speaking from personal experience. I was trying to find a place that i could go get a rapid test and you might find a place and there will be lines that put you so long they put you at risk of infection. We did get news that fda approved emergency use authorization for the first athome covid test. Your reaction to this mornings retail earnings, macys and Bjs Wholesale Club beating expectation as the Holiday Season kicks off. Were already in the middle of it. We talked about it with mark tepper earlier. People have been buying for christmas and the holidays. What are your expectations . This will be the biggest Holiday Season ever. I dont think thats in question. What will be interesting to see is how this plays out. The name i really like is target. Theyve had a series of management and execution issues over the last half decade theyve seem to have fixed and cured. Whether people want to buy it in store, want to buy it online, want to do curbside pickup, companies that can execute on this level i think whipping jowl perform. Will outperform. Target will be my pick going in. Another thing to think about is travel. Travel is not happening for a lot of families across the country. As a result, a greater portion of their wallet share is going to consumer purchases, whether thats fixing up your home, buying more video games or clothing or whatever, but theres a lot greater portion of wallet share given the pandemic, going into retail. So i expect to see retail sales continue to boom. So it was a little bit of a disappointment this week on the month over month number but were up 5. 7 year over year and a when you take the price of gasoline out of there, the number gets above 7 . Think about that weve gone through a pandemic and recession and retail sales are up year over year hitting alltime highs. So i expect that trend to continue regardless of what goes on with shutdowns and id say the more pan h pandemic news yo, the less well see in travel and the more youll see in retail sales and more of a blowout Christmas Season for a lot of these companies. How big of a risk are lockdowns for the market, how much is factored in here . Youre asking all the right questions and which say for the last i would say for the last number of weeks weve been on a see saw of data and emotional roller coaster. We have dueling data, data thats coming in in terms of the vaccine which is overwhelmingly positive. I started calling it manic, mrna mondays, youve got the market to sort of see through to the recovery, to the change the cyclicals in value and then tuesday, wednesday, thursday, you get news like you did yesterday. I went from dueling headlines to dueling recorder class in my house so a drag on personal productivity. I hope none of my clients are listening or watching. This is real. The shutdowns are real. Weve had the president buy done has come out and said hes not going to do a full shutdown. Weve reacted in terms of our spending and reoriented it and b, again, we can see through because we actually have come to both from an election perspective and a vaccine perspective, basically the best Case Scenario in each place. So what i would say is look through but the next couple weeks are going to be really volatile if institutions stay out this year. Dagen mark, lets turn to you. End of the month pension moves. An estimated net 36 billion worth of equities to be sold from pensions given the outperformance over fixed income in the last month. Your reaction to that . Its been a good month for stocks. So dagen, look, systematic reblabsing of 36 rebalancing of 36 billion i dont think thats going to be a market mover in my opinion. Whats more interesting to me is the longer term shift that youre seeing in asseta allocation when you look at pensions, foundations, endowments, youve been seeing money come out of equity and fixed income and into illliquid alternatives over the last two decades or so. In the early 2000s equity exposure was over 60 in pensions, at the beginning of 2020 it was below 40 , the lowest in several decades. At the same time, return expectations are coming down. So when you go back to the early000s, return expectations were above 8 . Now were just barely above 7 . But what does this all mean to me . When you look at nexted income, i mean fixed income, fixed income, the performance has been a tail wind to Overall Investment performance over the course of the last 30 of years, as Interest Rates have come down. Now that it looks like theyre going to start coming back up, thats going to be a head wind to performance. I think whats more interesting is these pensions, theyre going to have to continue to change their asseta allocation and probably increase exposure to equities over the course of the next several years. Again, those extended benefits that were in the initial rescue imagepackage, they expire at thd of the year and more than 13 million americans at the end of october were enrolled in one of the two programs im talking about. Its either extra weeks or its the extension of Unemployment Benefits to, say, contract workers. Yes, absolutely right. And we should be getting to this. I have seen no movement here this week in the house of representatives. There might be something but i havent seen it and quite honestly the two sides are very far apart. Speaker pelosi and leader schumer wish to use the pandemic to feather the nest of many programs and failed policies over the course of time, whether in states at the federal level, senator mcconnell and many in the house want a more targeted program. There are american thats are hurt hadding out there, especially with state lockdowns that are occurring as we speak. There are businesses, there are individuals that are suffering under the rules and requirements of the state governments and so we should get to it but we dont need to add other things. We paid for the Kennedy Center and the nba. We dont need any more of that. As long as that stuffs included in the package, its going to be very difficult to pass. So weve got to get past the audiology of the left to add another 2 trillion to the debt service and not deal with the people that are actually really suffering. Thats where we need to be. As long as theyre stuck on their position, its going to be hard to get there. Dagen nancy pelosi said no to a 1. 8 trillion relief package offered by President Trump and the Trump Administration. Let me ask you quickly, the legal battles in pennsylvania, the Trump Campaign revised its lawsuit calling to overturn Election Results hours after a u. S. District judge canceled a hearing for today i. In the revised suit the trump team led by Rudy Giuliani is calling on the judge to deem the Election Results defective and allow the States Assembly to choose pennsylvanias electors, revises previous claims that republican observers were denied access to mailin ballot couldnting and alleges inconsistent treatment of curing of mailin ballots. What do you expect will be the outcome of the lawsuit . I dont think well know for some time. Were waiting on the information from pennsylvanias election from the secretary of state so we can start going through that information. It is hard to determine the facts. We know that there are anomalies and we know there are outright inconsistencies like disparate treatment between counties. Democrat counties allowed to fix ballots, republican counties not allowed to fix ballots. Democrat counties keeping republican observers and watchers out, republican counties allowing democrats and republicans to watch the county. We have to have one set of rules here. If you dont have one set of rules and if the election in question, the validity, the veracity, the integrity of the election is in question, its either whats the remedy to that . You either hold another election or you look at this one and Say Something is not working out here, there has to be another process. I think thats the process that the president s team is looking at, based on the results that were seeing in this election in pennsylvania. Dagen congressman scott perry, thank you so much. Well, i enthusiastically support what secretary pompeo said and did yesterday and the general policy of the Trump Administration in the middle east, which i think really has worked. Were back on the side of our friends, which is to say israel and the arab world and were standing strong against our sworn enemy. They swear we are their enemy which is the Islamic Republic of iran. The sanctions adopted yesterday or imposed yesterday by the u. S. Are really important because they go right to the enormous amount of money that the Supreme Leader of iran puts into his foundation which he uses for purposes that are not good for the United States. Its not a foundation in the sense that we have charitable foundations. It does a lot of evil. And ill tell you one thing. The ayatollah is a religious leader but he never took the vow of poverty. Hes accumulated an enormous amount of money and if we hurt him financially, it may finally bring iran to the table to negotiate an agreement that really will end their new you nr program or they will Nuclear Program or they will face an run upridessing from their people. Dagen President Trump announced sudan and israel agreed to normalized relations, a statement for the countries saying they have resolved to Work Together to build a Better Future and advance the cause of peace in region, following deals with the United Arab Emirates and bahrain to recognize israel. Senator, what are your expectations for the future of these peace deals and our toughness with iran under a joe Biden Administration . Well, you know, i supported joe biden but i must say, and i look forward to his presidency, but i must say that im concerned about this one area of policy toward iran. Because the Iranian Nuclear agreement which Obama Administration negotiated, i think was a terrible mistake. I think were much better being out of it and putting maximum economic pressure on iran. Without this, i dont believe that the arab countries and israel would have had the courage to enter into these remarkable new accords, israel and the emirates, bahrain, sue yosudan, these are real peace agreements that have taken shape and if the Biden Administration rushes back into negotiations with iran and lets them off easy, were going to slide back to a much worse time. So i hope, and i believe that the incoming Biden Administration will see how much things have changed in five years, how little iran has kept the promises it made under that Nuclear Agreement to stop support of terrorism, to stop its Missile Program and and its Nuclear Program, pause it, which they never did. I think we have to remain tough with iran and thats the way to achieve real peace in the middle east. Dagen do you worry about what i would this is my characterization dangerous group think among the left and even democrats, that if trump did it, its bad. It just seems to be this simplistic, if not deranged idea that if trump did it, we need to reverse it. Is that a concern for you . It is a concern, dagen, its a concern i have about our politics. We have a kind of us against them that exists in both parties. If the other party did it, then it must be wrong. You can see this in Public Opinion polling. Its wrong. What we both should be doing is looking for whats right, what we can agree on and to me, although i repeat again, i supported joe biden for president , i think President Trump got it right in the middle east and particularly beginning with his tougher policy toward iran and i hope that the Biden Administration will continue that. Thats the way to secure peace in the middle east for our allies. Most of all, i know president elect biden has said he wants our Foreign Policy now to be based on our alliances and i agree with that. But that goes for the middle east too and that means that we cant just unilaterally go and make a separate deal with iran that really threatens our allies in the arab world and in israel.
