Is it this very unusual and why is it happening . Well, its not unusual. Theres sharks really close to shore all the time, and i think thats one of the things that people have a hard time understanding is that when they go in the ocean, theyre surrounded by sharks. Its normal. Theyre here to feed theyre looking for habitat and young and theyre there. Learning how to adapt and live in an environment that sharks are in. Cheryl well, but this attack here in new york that im talking about happened at rock away and theyre saying its the most serious shark attack weve seen in this area since the 1950s. My impression was always that in these warmer waters, sharks would not be interested in the warmer waters, and theyre saying this particular attack was a bull or sand bar shark, they dont know. Think say because, i mean, it was 20 pounds of flesh that was taken off of her thigh, which ie shark bites and realize, youre not a fish. Youre a person. But this was a lot more than that. If you look at how many people were probably in the water with her, not only in new york but across the east coast and how many interactions were there on that day, thats how infrequent these are. Sharks move where the environment is going to be good for them to eat and do what they need to do to survive. Coming into shores is completely normal and, look, if people knew actually how many sharks were in the water with them, no one would go in the ocean. Its just really not something to worry about.
