FirstEnergy says it’s talking to feds about cutting deal in HB6 bribery probe

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- FirstEnergy Corp. officials are discussing cutting a deal with the U.S. Department of Justice to avoid possible criminal charges as part of the ongoing House Bill 6 bribery probe, the company disclosed on Thursday in a new regulatory filing.
The company wrote that it’s begun discussing what’s called a deferred prosecution agreement, through which a company can take actions, like paying a fine and cooperating with an investigation, to avoid being criminally charged.
