Former care worker who humiliated resident asks for new sentence

A former care worker serving time in Lackawanna County Prison for filming a developmentally disabled woman she made do humiliating things asked a judge Monday to shorten her sentence or let her serve it at home or on work release.
Eileen Dougherty, 40, said the last month that she’s been in the county jail has been a time of self-reflection and atonement. The real “rock bottom” came with the realization “that I had done something so incredibly cruel,” she told President Judge Michael J. Barrasse.
“The woman that stands before you today is one who has been broken and is working every day to build herself into something better,” Dougherty said.
