Sam McCann on charges accusing him of fraudulent use of campaign funds, money laundering and tax evasion in the amount of $200,000 between 2015 and 2020. The indictment was announced by the Department of Justice for the Central District of Illinois, the FBI and the IRS. An indictment is a formal charge by a grand jury and is not proof of guilt. McCann is accused of engaging in a scheme to convert contributions and donations made to his campaign committees to pay himself and make personal purchases, and that he concealed it fraud from donors, the public, the Illinois State Board of Elections and law enforcement authorities.
