The announcement by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission came after an investigation by authorities into Gong's case. Gong, having abandoned his ideals and convictions, had attempted to build cliques within the Party, which caused serious harm to and had bad influences on the political environment, according to the announcement.
