CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A rabies alert was sent out to residents on or near Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road in Huntersville at 7 p.m. Thursday night, after a fox tested positive for rabies in the area, according to the Huntersville Police Department’s Animal Care and Control.
Officials say two domesticated dogs and one human were exposed to the rabies infected fox on July 15th.
This is the 6th animal in 2021 to test positive for rabies in Mecklenburg County.
Officials remind pet owners that North Carolina rabies law requires all owned cats, dogs, and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age.
