The number could go higher. Were looking at basically three stories high of concrete rubble. More than 50 Apartment Units destroyed. Theres stories of people saying i opened my door and my neighbors apartment was gone. People struggling to get out of there. The governor of florida says its a Search And Rescue operation. Heres governor desantis. In Search And Rescue mode. Theyre trying to identify survivors. They made contact with some and theyre doing everything that they can to save lives. That is ongoing. Theyre not going to rest. 36 people were rescued overnight. Two were pulled from the rubble. The First Responders came from around southern florida risking their own life in a building that was partially collapsed. President biden has contacted the mayor of miamidade promising full federal support. Heres the president. Im waiting for the governor to ask to declare an emergency and especially as we learn more about what might happen with the rest of the building. Were on top of it. Were ready to move from the federal resources immediately. We have gotten reports that sniffer dogs have found indications of life under the surface. So the digging and the hope here will continue. Right now our primary objective is to save lives and our secondary objective is to make sure those displaced have somewhere to go. We have done both of those things now. So weve had the people in this particular building relocating to local hotels. We had a Hotel Next Door that we had to close because of Safety Reasons and we located those people to other hotels. So right now its a 100 focus on Search And Rescue. Neil i understand its very difficult to keep tabs on who is missing. Short term rentals in there as well. Is that 99 figure of those Unaccounted For, is that holding . Are you getting word of others or Family Members asking . Certainly those numbers are indicators. I wouldnt rely completely on the numbers. What were doing is the only way were going to know who is missing is by triangulaing the information with the people calling and looking for relatives what weve got is a centralized number that you probably got on your screen. Were asking the families of relatives to give us a call so we can compile a list. Neil what about the area around there. I notice the building affected is uninhabitable. Is theres any risk to neighboring buildings . I think theres some thoughts and ideas and theories about what happened here. Like i said, i think its just so early and were focused there will be a time once we have saved as many people as we can save to figure out why this happened. Buildings like this do not just fall down in the United States of america. Thats not something that happens. There is around 100 billion that will if you beef up irs enforcement that can be net 100 billion there. Youre viewing audience will like this. Theres about 80 billion that is being clawed back from precovid relief, covid relief bills that were unspent. Theres some usage, federal Activity Bonds and other tools. There are frankly some cats and dogs of smaller programs that were clawing money from. Again, something your viewers will like. 80 billion that we think we can recruit from unemployment fraud. We know what the plus up on unemployment dollars out there. Theres some fraud out there. Well have money trying to reclaim that. You know that my business was in the telephones and wireless industry. The reason why i ask, senator, seems that one of the reasons for the markets advancing is this notion that tax hikes would be pushed back. You think its possible that those tax hikes on corporations, rich individuals are delayed . They might not happen this year . No, i think listen, im on the budget committee. Im probably the most conservative democrat on the budget committee. Ive gone from one side on the Infrastructure Package urging my republican friends to spend more. Now im engaged in my most liberal colleagues want to spend more than i think is healthy. You know, that second package, which in washington speak is call reconciliation, that is basically code for an approach that says, okay, you have to get all 50 democrats, this is the methodology. My republican friends used it in 2017 when they did the close to 2 trillion tax cut. So this is a tool that both parties have used in the past. Im open to some of that being used in terms of revenues that are fair. I say this as a former business guy.
