The fast moving wildfires destroyed thousands of homes and buildings in a matter of hours. We have photos showing a scene on the island before and after the flames came through. Just a tragic situation here on the island of maui. 13 miles away from the town of lahaina, one of the hardest areas hit by the fires. We have a roadblock where police arent very many people in. Just residents and restricted to only a few areas. It is an active scene on a lot of parts of the island. There are still many hot spots and firefighters are trying to put out the flames in areas and Search And Rescues crews are searching for survivors and finding victims. 55 people confirmed dead at this hour as fires continue to burn throughout the island. It is unclear why these fires started. None of these fires are currently contained. The most destructive fire, the one on mauis west side which ripped through the community of lahaina fed by dry conditions and fierce winds because of Hurricane Dora. The fire destroyed more than 1,000 homes and damaged the bannan tree. It is now described as looking like a war zone here. I dont know if they got their family safe. I know when you grew up on that street and you know auntie and uncle that had no chance. You think it could have happened to any of us. Heartbreaking scenes playing out across this island. Making matters worse, cell service and phone lines have been cut out across the west side of maui. Many people cant reach their loved ones or friends.
