How are things where you are today, mike . Dana, despite all the rage in the region, the activity here at the gaza strip has been kind of light. The rocket fire coming out of gaza has been light relative to previous days. We saw an air strike go into the gaza strip. Nothing like weve seen in previous days. Israel Defense Force is trying to combat the initial narrative that the explosion at the hospital which resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths was the responsibility of israel. The idf saying clearly that in no Uncertain Terms they believe it was caused by an Islamic JihadRocket Barrage aimed at israel. One of the rockets hit short of its target and hit the hospital. There are several videos that seem to show just that with the lights going up in the sky and straight line. Those are the rockets, an explosion in the foreground if you will. That being the hospital. This coming from a number of different Security Cameras in the area. In addition to that, the idf has now released what they say is an intercepted call between two hamas operatives acknowledging that the explosion was indeed caused by Islamic Jihad. They went as far as inflating the numbers of casualties. The Palestinian Health ministries hasnt released the Civilian Casualties other than they are in the hundreds. The number of palestinian dead in the response to the October 7th Massacre is upwards of 3400 palestinians who have been killed. The initial narrative that went out immediately after the explosion that it was the result of an israeli air strike took hold and spread around the region. There hasnt been much acknowledgement for evidence presented to the contrary. That is why you see hamas calling for an unprecedented day of rage. A leader of hamas who used to be based in the gaza strip is stating that the arab nation needs to stand as one and iran saying ominously, as we get all of this rocket fire from lebanese border, that time is running out for israel. She said simply that she learned that her daughter was still alive when hamas released that video. I talked with a father of a hostage or at least a missing person who is american today and says they are frustrated because they arent getting enough communication. It all becomes very delicate in terms of releasing information even if you release information to families, because there are so many families that can produce leaks and can inhibit the delicate balance of a hostage negotiation. The people are not receiving Family Members and loved ones arent receiving as much information as they would like and very frustrated. But it does appear in acknowledging the number of confirming the number of hostages that there is some communication going on with the captors but is not making its way to the families. We stand for the protection of civilian life during conflict and i grieve i truly grieve for the families killed or wounded by this tragedy. People of gaza need food, water, medicine, shelter. Today i ask the Israeli Cabinet who i met with to agree to lifesaving assistance to civilians in gaza based on the understanding there will be inspections and the aid should go to civilians, not hamas. Israel agreed humanitarian assistance can begin to move from egypt to gaza. Let me be clear, if hamas diverts or steals assistance, it will end. As a practical matter well stop the International Community from being able to provide this aid. Were working in close cooperation with egypt and the u. N. Like the World Program and other partners to get trucks moving across the border as soon as possible. Separately, i ask israel that the Global Community demand the International Red cross be able to visit hostages. I have just demanded the United States fully a just demand that the United States fully supports. I am also announcing 1 Hundred Million in new u. S. Funding for human karan assistance in gaza and the west bank. The money will support more than 1 million displaced palestinians including Emergency Needs in gaza. You are a jewish state. You are a jewish state, you are also a democracy. Like the United States, you dont live by the rules of terrorists. You live by the rule of law. And when conflicts flair, you live by the law of wars. What sets us apart from the terrorists is we believe in the fundamental dignity of every human life. Israeli, palestinian, arab, jew, muslim, christian, everyone. You cant give up what makes you who you are. If you give that up, the terrorists win and we can never let them win. Israel is a miracle, a triumph of faith and resolve and resilience over impossible pain and loss. Think about october 7th, the jewish holiday, when you read about the death of moses. A tragic loss to an entire nation. A death that could have left hopelessness in the hearts of an entire nation. But though moses died his memories and lessons have lived on for generations of the jewish people as well as many others. Just as the memory of your loved ones will live on as well. After reading the story of moses death they began reading the torah from the very beginning. The story of creation, reminds us of two things. First, when we get knocked down, we get back up again. We begin anew. And second, when we are faced with tragedy and loss we must go back to the beginning and remember who we are. We are all human beings created in the image of god with dignity, humanity and purpose. In the darkest to be the light onto the world is what were about. You inspire hope and light for so many around the world. Thats what the terrorists seek to destroy. Thats what they seek to destroy. Because they live in darkness but not you. Not israel. I told the story before and i will tell it again of my first meeting with an israeli Prime Minister 50 years ago as a young senator. I was sitting across from the desk in the Prime Ministers office.
