Cities acrosss the countries are struggling with the Migrant Crisis and tonight boston and denver are dealing with their own unique circumstances after migrants surged in those cities, people one of bostons most expensive neighborhoods are outraged over a plan to open an Emergency Overflow Shelter for migrants 80 living in a United Way Operation Shelter in bostons sea port neighborhood, neighbors say they feel blind sided and officials dont have answers for them. In my view these people are already here and if were going to fight the situation we need to fight the border Policy Ordeal with it in washington. Bostons mayor claims the shelter must be operated with minimal impact to the very frustrated neighbors. In the City Of Denver a nounsed some of its oncall employees may have their hours reduced to zero in an effort to Reallocate Funds towards the citys Migrant Crisis. That includes jobs like front desk workers coaches and life guards. Denver has been running seven Migrant Shelters in Hotels Across city as part of its effort to reduce costs its consolidating from seven to three cutting its budget by an estimated 60 million. Denver says it has 2300 migrants in shelters with an average of 30 arriving every day, trace. Trace yeah. It is affecting cities all across the country. We see this all across the country, they have schools and museums that are close by and they just dont know exact will what is going on. Yeah, youre absolutely right, trace. Its a safety issue. And i think that thats what a lot of people are trying to relay to their elected officials. And you can feel the frustration and you can feel the panic from a lot of politicians especially here in boston because obviously theyre democrats, theyre dealing with outspoken constituents who are very unhappy and cant really give them any sort of strategy because the white house doesnt have a strategy so all they can tell people right now is we understand your frustration and were not donald trump and thats not doing anyone any good. Trace its really not, cotter trust to you, well get to your city chicago in a minute but i want you to weigh in on whats happening in denver because now deny railroad is cutting the hours of City Employees to pay for migrants. The parks and recreations direct or said the reduction in hours Operations Program will affect the number of hours worked by many on some to the point where they may not receive any hours. Final decisions on hours for any individual position have not been made yet. Can you imagine someone walking up to you saying listen we have to take care of these migrants so were cutting your paycheck cotta. Of course i can imagine the same thing were seeing in chicago happening all over the country where migrants are being deposited. Theres no money to take care of this em. The president is standing back saying that we have newcomers as if they are supposed to be here. And i think that people have to realize, and i have to keep saying this, is that at least in chicago, Sanctuary City Status only means that we will not report you to the authorities. It does not mean that we are responsible for housing and taking care of you. And, again, we are putting migrants before the people in these cities. So now youre saying to the people in denver, were going to cut your hours, possibly taking away your livelihood, so that we can take care of someone else. Trace right, yeah. In what world does that make sense . Trace and i wonder to you grace, because i think if you had to address your local officials, i mean, what would you say to how they have handled this mess in boston . Its funny trace when i watch these cuts from residents in boston you still have people saying im very compassionate and i want to handle this with compassion and thats the part we havent been able to shake. You have to let people understand, its not about compassion. People in texas are very compassionate. People on border towns are very compassionate. Addressing the fact that this is an untenable situation and having solutions for that doesnt make you a bad person. It doesnt make you less caring than anybody else. It just makes you a realist with some common sense and were lacking that right now especially in the city of boston. And people are just at their witnesss end, they feel like theyve been left in the learning.
