The southeast is picking up the pieces after helene killed more than 230 people making it the deadliest hurricane to hit our mainland since katrina. Brian remember it happened two thursdays ago. Lawrence is live in North Carolina with a firsthand look of the destruction. Lawrence . Lawrence hey, good morning, family. Just to show you the scene here, the best way can i describe it is if you picture a War Zone in a movie, well, thats what this community is facing right now. I want you to look at this. This used to be a Car Repair Center right here. And you see this car that has been devastated right here. Look inside of the building, there is other cars that are in there that are just pinned down. On the other Location Right here is a mattress location. Theres nothing there. We have to literally go to Google Map to figure out exactly what it was. On the other side of the service station. Completely hit as well. And the people are coming together right now. Private organizations pitching. In but theres a lot of questions about where is the federal government. They say they are here. But the people feel a different way. We spoke to them yesterday. This is what they had to say. Watch. We never thought it would hit up here in these mountains like this. But, when we walk down and seen that road gone and that bridge gone, i mean, it took my breath. I was like what happened . Lots of disaster in this area. A lot dead, a lot without power and water. We dont know when the water will be restored. I dont have any right now. My son hikes five miles to get me. We went through all the devastation of there were no roads. There were no homes. There was nothing. Just so much damage. Its been somewhat overwhelming. We feel like we are in a War Zone. People have drove up and they saw what we have got and they have just covered their face and their Hands Sobbing that they were able to find something, something to eat, something for their babies. Such an outreach from around the country. I mean, folks from all states coming in and they are just helping us bringing supplies in. Truck load after truck load. I think that our government can do more. Because were going to need the help. There is roads gone. There is, you know, its going to take a lot to rebuild us. There is so much more that could be done. And ifing us 750, if you can even apply for it is ridiculous. And i have only heard of a handful of people getting approved. 750 isnt going to do anything even if you do get approved. Not with the damage we are seeing. Not with the hurting that people are going through right now. Where is the help for northern western North Carolina. We send billions to ukraine but we Cant Help western North Carolina. We pay it in, we work. We should receive some benefit from the government with our own money. Its just not right. The people of western North Carolina that are hit hard should not be suffering like this. I dont think she is doing enough, and i dont think biden is doing enough, either. Im sorry, i dont. Everybody i talk to its pretty much a slap in the face. We are not getting the support from her, from the president , the sitting president. Were just kind of having to suffer through it and figure it out on our own. I would say to Kamala Harris, this tragedy did not happen in a nice Neighborhood Downtown asheville. Step out, get your rain boots on. Get your mud boots on, your gloves on and go out there and walked through what i hiked through for two and a half miles to get back to asheville, to get back to my family. You hack it, then you tell me what its like. You step it up. You up your game. As you can see the frustration, the passion from those residents. Lets bring in Carson And Sarah, The One focus church. Yesterday we met as congregation and cried. Congregation members have found bodies in mud wrapped around trees trapped in. Just its heart breaking. I think one of the most amazing things that we have seen thats blown us all away is how the community people that live here are walking, getting in their vehicles, getting in their atvs. Getting in their 4 by 4s and literally taking bottles of water and handing it to me what do you you need . Chainsaws carrying with them chopping stuff going through creeks and rivers getting to people i asked you this Carson And Sarah as well who is getting these bodies . Are they Government Officials that are cutting people down and you also have the people who are doing this . The stories we have heard its been individuals, might just be a couple of friends and buds that are gotten together and gone out and tried to be helpful and help with Loafer Effort and they literally have gone and pulled bodies out of the debris. Lawrence how bad is it here . When people see it on national media and they hear they say this is a week ago. Everybody is in place. Things are getting better. We still have a lot of people without power. Without cell phone. And thats one of the biggest things is we couldnt communicate with anybody. Lawrence for four days. Still we cant. Still super spotty. Yesterday the Church Right over here, we just were able to make Telephone Calls with Verizon Wireless Yesterday at about close to noon we were able to make some phone calls. It was hard for us to even set up supplies and get things because we couldnt even talk to each other. We were trying to figure out do we have any of the cb, walkietalkies anywhere. Coordination. Coordination was difficult but what was incredible was people were doing by word of mouth. They were saying i will be back. Go down the road and get you something and ill be back. Lawrence what do you all need right now . I have been impressed with the chumps that have stepped up. You have got samaritan purse on the ground. Yes. Lawrence helicopters in the air. How can we help . I think one of the things, we have been blessed and overwhelmed with the amount of people locally, nationally. I mean, we have people from oklahoma, up north, down south, florida that are contacting us, trying to figure out what we need. I have already sent supplies and everything. Making deliveries daily if not multiple times a day. One of the big things is to remember that its super easy for the rest of the world to start to move on after you hear a story for a couple days becomes old news, this isnt going to be old news. Lingering. People here, water, a lot of people some people have well water some people are on City Water it. Could be months before City Water because infrastructure was hurt so bawnd and running. This is something that cant be fixed within a week or two with some donations. This is going to take a long time. So i think to not be forgotten about and that help is still going to be needed going forward for quite a while. Lawrence thank you so much for giving me time. We will be praying for you guys. National guardsman in florida he said Fema Couldnt get there they had no helicopters. He was going in personally on his own and there were a lot of people on the Government Side said you cant do this. You cant do that stopping a lot of good samaritans from doing what they had to do. Some people are not accessible without choppers. While i wait a week to call in the military. I dont know why that wouldnt be the first option. Ainsley National Guard thousand troops. This was a week after the hurricane had hit, i do know there are a lot of volunteers there fema has sent a good bit of money to all of those states, but these roads are treacherous. If you have been to the mountains of North Carolina. You know you are down in the towns, like lets Say Asheville or hendersonville or one of these small towns. And you have to get to these Mountain Houses through these back roads. Brian tell me that wouldnt have helped last week. Right after he was done with his vacation. Dont want to interrupted his vacation at rehoboth. Call up the 82nd Airborne do you have material and black hawks laying around there is a bunch of people in the mountains drowning that would have helped. Four days later they do it. Ainsley brian, we are focusing on North Carolina which was the hardest hit. Georgia was hit. Florida was hit with hurricane helene. People we talked to in tampa, housesy flooded. Houses burned. One lady i was talking to on her street 3 houses burned. They are about to get hit again with this new hurricane coming through wednesday or thursday. Brian i was watching you on saturday morning, already people were streaming into the Butler Rally when pete was down there. Will they had started friday night. Incredible turnout as butler, pennsylvania for the three Month Return are a his first Assassination Attempt of Donald Trump to butler, pennsylvania. Wall Street Journal says after you were chosen to join the ticket, at the democratic governor Tim Walz signed into law allowing immigrants in the country illegally to apply for drivers licenses, qualify for free tuition at State Universities and enroll in the states free Healthcare Program for low income residents. Are those not magnets to draw people here . Many times on dangerous journeys for themselves and why should your taxpayers in minnesota or across the states pay for those programs . Well, thats not the Vice President s position but i will say this. Minute society ranks as a top five business state. We rank as a top three state for children living. And were the top state for healthcare access. I would also add, this we also have some of the safest roads. Brian thats good. She spends a third of her days in different briefings and meetings conducting internal meetings and talking about her schedule instead of holding rallies. And i saw Andrea Mitchell of all people over the weekend say its about time for her to do serious introduce because people need to know what she is about. This whole risk adverse approach is wrong. These complaints are coming from her side. There was a Dozen Politico cited a dozen sources on the democratic side concerned about whats happening. Tim walz tweeted a clip with that interview with Shannon Bream he said Donald Trump and j. D. Vance will push for a national abortion ban. That is misinformation. It is false. And its a commercial about this Military Mom who says were trying to do ivf we want to get pregnant and we move around state to state because im married to a man in the military and Donald Trump is going to take that right away from thus different states. Donald trump is not going to
