“We’re turning this moment into an opportunity to bring Xbox Live more in line with how we see the player at the center of their experience,” Microsoft said in a statement. “For free-to-play games, you will no longer need an Xbox Live Gold membership to play those games on Xbox. We are working hard to deliver this change as soon as possible in the coming months.” The news was part of an update in which Microsoft said it would be reversing a decision to increase the price of an Xbox Live Gold subscription. The original post stated a $1 USD/month increase to the service, one that enables online multiplayer access to games playable on Xbox consoles including Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series S & X.
