Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh is warning Baltimoreans of illegal, unlicensed pop-up COVID-19 testing sites.
The attorney general said Monday that individuals are setting up tables at random locations, including outside shopping centers and retail stores, and offering free testing. However, the stations are not authorized and their operators are not following federal guidelines for collecting, handling and testing specimens.
The state's 240 approved testing sites are listed online.
“Consumers in need of a COVID-19 test should have it performed at an approved testing site,” Frosh said in a statement. “Providing personal information, such as Social Security numbers, to individuals hosting one of these pop-up sites not only puts your health at risk but increases your chances of becoming a victim of identity theft.”
