The latest in a long list of hyped G-Shock collaborators to capture the attention of quick-fingered watch collectors is the artist King Nerd (or Johnny Dowell, as his mother calls him), who has applied his signature engraving-style designs to the popular GM-6900 to create the GM-6900GKING-9ER. He joins the likes of Stüssy and Takashi Murakami in using Casio’s watches as a canvas. Dowell is a master collaborator in his own right, previously lending his hand to watch brands including Jaeger LeCoultre and Bamford London, plus, outside the world of wrist candy, Harley-Davidson. But for him, a G-Shock is a dream proposition and not just because he grew up with the line. King Nerd’s designs are known to combine the old and new, and the modern character of a robust digital G-Shock (complete with signature shock-absorbing build and 200m water-resistance) presents a perfect foil for his traditional-looking embellishments.
