Oakridger Based on tests for genetic material in Oak Ridge’s sewers, there is a continuing need for people to act with caution with regard to COVID-19. The two current spots for testing, Turtle Park Wastewater Treatment Plant and Rarity Ridge Wastewater Treatment Plant are in what the city of Oak Ridge Public Works has called a “yellow” or “widespread transmission imminent” zone of concentration, meaning it’s in the 100,000 to 1 million particles per liter for positive SARS-CoV-2 Gene RNA Particles. This RNA is genetic material that shows the virus’s concentration in the Oak Ridge population. City Manager Mark Watson explained in an email to The Oak Ridger that those two plants together handle all of the city of Oak Ridge’s wastewater, with no other plants involved. So, Watson said, they represent the entire city at present, meaning that the entire city could be considered in this yellow, caution zone.
