AN ANNIVERSARY commemoration for murdered man George Floyd is to be held in Southampton today. City residents have been invited by Southampton Stand Up to Racism (SUTR), and co-hosted by a number of other local groups, to join the event, which will be hosted at Southampton Guildhall from 6pm. They will gather to listen to speakers representing BLM Southampton, Stand Up to Racism, Black History Month South and the Labour Party among others. Those involved will then take a knee as a list of people who have died in police custody is read aloud. A SUTR spokesperson said: "At a time when we are still experiencing the disproportionate effect of the COVID pandemic on BAME people, when police brutality still prevails in this country, we gather to remember that the UK is not innocent and we must not forget that racism is a very real problem.
