Adolescence is a critical transitional period, and some important health and social problems can start or peak during these years. Dr. W. Daniel Perez and Linda Avila will discuss the health issues facing teens and how the behavioral patterns established during the teen years help determine young peoples’ health status and their future risks. Adolescents who have a solid bond and communicate with a caring adult are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. They are more likely to adopt positive behaviors and become more effective learners. Perez and Avila will share information families can use to provide youth with the support, relationships, experiences, resources and opportunities needed to become mentally and physically healthy, thriving adults.
